I currently play a HZRDUS Red CB 50 - 6.0 50g 4.8 torque shaft in my TSR2. was fitted for this shaft.

My ball flight can still be midrange at times but not always high(er). I don't spray the ball from side to side, but typically straight or a slight draw on tee shots.

My curiosity is maybe dropping down to the CB 50 but a 5.5 shaft, but the torque is 5.9 and was curious how that would impact flight. My swing speed is between 85-90.

I have been looking at other shaft options as well, but once again the torques are higher than what I currently play.

The other concern is the lower torque shafts in a 5.5 are around 60g and not sure what that will impact.

I played a HZRDUS Black 6.0 60g 4 years ago in my TSi2 from a fitting I had. This time I was fitted with the HZRDUS Red CB 50 6.0 50g

At 61 just looking for maybe a bit more carry yards.

Any information ideas would be grateful

Shaft selection is the most interesting and beneficial part of a good fitting, but you have to know what you are looking for. Lighter shafts will generate a bit more swing speed but higher torque will lead to more shaft twist which could send your ball more left or right. I would try to find a Titleist fitting with the full selection of available shafts.

I agree about shaft weights. I went to a 70 gram shaft on my hybrids and fairways since 2019.

Soft stepped stiff has worked on my hybrids for a year now (I take a stiff meant for 23 and attach it to a 25 or 27 head). TS2 25 has +4 with 70g Tensei 38.5”. 816H1 27 with 13g weight and Tensei 75 38”. They play at D3.

I would hook the crap out of a Bassara or Diamana 60. I have a Diamana 72 on my TSR1 23 fairway. Get D2 swing weight with standard length and head weight. Same shaft on my 913F 17. Diamana 70 on GT2 with -4 weight.

My driver is 915D2 44” with Diamana 60 and 15g weight.

I find the fairways quite well. An occasional fade but mostly dead straight.

From a 10,000 foot level view, if you are getting good dispersion, you might want to look into a TPI evaluation (the website can find instructors in your area). Torque translates into club head rotation at impact. Too much torque will tend to leave the head open at impact if your CHS is not fast enough. With less flex, your launch will be lower and likely less carry.
With a CHS mid-80’s, I was fit for that red shaft as well. What has helped me more is a TPI designed exercise program. I’ve added 4-5 mph CHS as a result.

I'll take a look at the TPI options. I know I don't have a TPI instructor around here. But the website has great information and never thought about getting a good solid regime up and running for increasing swing speed.

I have had a few health setbacks the last 18 months that have kept me out of the gym. But am back to my fitness training the past 3 months.

Just went to https://www.mytpi.com/experts and found both a golf (level 2) and a fitness/medical professional (level 1) in Wichita, KS.

If you had my logon (and you won't...) you could find the routine customized for me I can refer to that my golf expert set up for me.

I always do, but where I live, we have not had a Titleist fitting within 290 miles in 2 years.
we have some stores that claim to have certified fitters, but they are not Titleist Fitters.

Am hoping one of our courses bring them back.

A PGA Tour fitter once told me that 3 guys can have the same clubhead speed, need different shafts. Forget about what you've read, go to a certified Fitter, or reputable, spend an hour or so. Don't even bring up all the torque crap, you swing 85-90 with a slight draw. Most guys your age would kill for that. Let's see if getting you to 90-95 mph changes anything. I'm 59 and just went from 108 to 113, you can do it! Good Luck!

Thanks, I do plan on working on swing speed as we are heading into our off season here in Kansas.

  11. Club HEADS are all relative imo at this point in golf. Find one you look at and say MAN that looks good.

Now, shafts... that's where the winners and losers are separated. Frankly. The right shaft can make that purdy looking club you like to look down on a rocket launcher or a hot mess. So, while I bemoan typically giving people cash to do a fitting, I will 100% tell you that the shaft fitting is absolutely critical if you are goin gto be serious about dialing your game in and ensuring that you have the right gear to play the best you can.

And where I may differ, I draw a distinction in the quality of the player and more important their goals. If you're just trying to get better and not play tournamentas at your higher Am level, does the whole equipment fitting process make sense? IDK that I have an answer to that. You and only you have the answer to that.
