I have also wondered about the personals. Its interesting because they require the silver dot stickers or something of the sport for the monitors to pick up the data. I just can't see myself dotting balls at the range to practice, nor should i see myself only using some personal balls and tracking them down each time. Im sure one day it will become less complicated but I wonder how its working for anyone out there in the TT community

I'm also curious if anyone has worked with their own person monitor, specifically the Swing Caddie line.

Recently purchased the Flightscope Mevo. I’ve used it a few times so far and love it. It’s my understanding that it has one radar unit (?) as opposed to 4 in the Trackman so it is limited in the information it can provide. But for a good idea of club distances it works great. I haven’t had a chance to put it up against my coach’s Flightscope X3 to compare but will soon.

I have the SC100 Swing Caddie currently, I question it's accuracy on distance a great deal of the time. I use a laser on the range, and can hit to the target distance, but looking down at the unit it is consistently 3-7 yards off, sometimes long, mostly short of the laser distance.
I too am looking at purchasing a new unit, and am torn as which one; something more accurate with more data than the SC100. same question, can anyone recommend?

I use a MEVO. While it is not a Trackman, for keeping track of changes to ball flight and speed it works very well.

I have a Mevo and have found it to be very useful. I was mostly interested in using it for wedge distances with less than full swing. It has a video feature that is great. You set up your phone for a down the line shot and it captures a video of the swing without all of the in between shot time.

Sounds pretty sweet! how about the dots on the balls?

I have a Swing Caddie SC200 and no need for dots on balls or clubs. It provides smash factor, clubhead speed, ball speed, carry and total distance. It also has some practice features as well.

When I was fitted for my TS3, my swing speed was 100-109mph; with my launch monitor, I am usually 90-95mph. I can't really understand why the large discrepancy in swing speeds. The only thing that is a plus is that the numbers are consistent even if they might be low.

I find that when using the range balls at my course the distances are off. I use a laser range finder and when I hit the ball past that distance the launch monitor numbers. Our range balls are like hitting rocks...not high quality. We do not have any area that our members could use their own shag bag balls.

For $2000 CAD there is the SKY TRACK option... If I had the money I would find a used Trackman or Flightscope, but that is not financially realistic for a 12 handicap.

That Rapsodo looks pretty slick! Gives all the good information your looking for. Doesn't look like it requires the stickers? Im just interested in not having to sticker up a bucket of balls at a range to see the stats. This product looks interesting!

I've been reading up on all the devices suggested here (haven't made up my mind yet)- one word of warning about the Rapsodo is that their website states for "outdoor use" only.

OK...we shall see how the Rapsodo preforms.
Just ordered one...should have it within the next week.
I'll post my thoughts once I play with it for a few sessions.

I go slightly low tech...I use my range finder to shoot the targets on the range and then adjust the distance based on approx wind speed and direction, then I choose my club. It's not perfect, but it works for me. Bought my Bushnell range finder on sale for less than $200 and I can use it while playing.

I have one on the Trackman level (GcQuad) and have to say it is worth the investment if you're a nutcase like I am about this game. There are other less expensive ones if you just want to see what the ball does. The ES14 is ok for that but not perfect, the Skytrak, many people swear by and can work with some simulation software as well.

If you want something that works both indoors as well as out, you do have to pay more for accuracy and if you don't want to go super high end, you can find a used GC2 usually for not much more than a Skytrak and then you can upgrade it down the road with an HMT if you want more data.

Just keep in mind that if you get incorrect information, IT WILL NOT HELP YOU!

*Don't ask how I know. I've made the mistakes and spent too much money trying not to spend money. You are better off dialing in at the range than you are dialing in with incorrect data.

I have the Garmin G80 and it is actually pretty good. I like being able to set it down on the range and get decent numbers. Never had an issue even reading beat up range balls. For the money combined with the GPS features I like it a lot.

The Garmin G80 is both a handheld GPS and a personal launch monitor- I didn't even know these devices existed!! Cool concept- definitely want to read up on this device.

I have been thinking about investing in a personal monitor, but I am reluctant about the accuracy. And definitely can't afford Trackman. Think I need to put the money into lessons first.

i just saw on a email from Revolution Golf a portable launch monitor from PRGR that is about as big as your hand that for about under $200..you might check them out..

I purchased a mevo a few months ago. I have absolutely loved having it. It was a stretch for me at the time but I was hoping it would help my game and give me something else to practice with. I read all the reviews, they were mixed. Some good some bad. I looked at the swing caddy and couple other competitors lines and decided to spend the little extra to buy the mevo. I have used it at the range to map my bag and so far it has been very accurate. I typically shoot a couple of distances when I get to the range to verify that the mevo is accurate. It has not only been accurate but is nice to be able to hit all the clubs in my bag and get the feedback on actual distance for each shot.

I was fortunate to get a used SkyTrak off a friend who needed to sell. My son and I use it almost daily. It getting colder and days are shorter so thinking of purchasing the package that allows us to play actual courses. Has anyone done this? Worth the money?
