*dislcaimer: mere driving ranger and dad-cap/golfing fashion enthusiast; please go easy on me if i say something foolishly obvious:)

hi! my name is grayce. i came into a *ton* of golf gear, equipment, etc when my father passed away in 2011 and most of it has just sat tucked away and unused. i just started trying to identify and categorize all of these things to see (aside from what i want to keep) what may be worth selling and i should just give away. i've definitely spent countless hours lurking around on golf reddit/facebook, ebay, and now this site a bit -- for instance, i now know there is a v big diff from a pro v1* and pro v1 ;) annnnyway, i digress.

what brought me here to your community is mainly this one bag in particular -- a black and white freaking goooorgeous, very heavy and solid titleist tour staff bag w/ 6 dividers, a sweet shoulder strap, coppery/gold screws and plates seemingly made from *all leather*. i haven't gotten it, like, chemically tested but the strong consensus is is that this model is real leather. *i also can't find its ext replica online *anywhere* so i have no context as to when it was manufactured. some people on reddit told me i was full of it and it was def faux because titleist allegedly stopped utilizing all leather in the 60s or something (?) but i have no idea if that's true.

my father grew up a scrappy, city kid in an immigrant family and used to hit balls around the hudson shipping yards for fun after he found some golf stuff near his cousin's house. he was born in 1955, and from what i remember telling me he got this as a gift/thank you during the late 60s for doing some kind of work for someone wealthy when he was at prep. this bag was his first and he lovedddd it -- anyway the point of that is just his age may not be correlative with when this was made.

if anybody has seen this, has one, knows annnyyyything about it (age, worth, model, etc) please let this golfer's daughter know:) this is not a solicitation -- just doing some due diligence. some pics are below, and one of young dad for tribute:)

have a great night and stay safe.

  2. Very cool bag. I’d guess late 70s early 80s but not certain. I’m following this thread bc I’d like to know as well now...I’m sure there is a long standing enthusiast who had this bag and will give the info.

Looks leather to me, at least in one of the pictures.

IMO, the bag probably isn't something today's golfer would be interested in for use on the course, however, there may be some value in it from an "Antiques" perspective. Someone might want it to decorate a classic-styled man cave. Or, a photographic prop-house, prop-locator service, or a movie studio could find interest in stuff like this for producing 1950-60s period pieces; eg. a perfect prop for a golf scene on "Mad Men."

I would certainly not give it away if I were you. Consider checking with prop houses. I would send pics to as many of those types of businesses as possible, just so they can keep it on file for when a request for 50s-60s period golf stuff comes in. Having been a creative director in advertising and marketing communications most of my 40-year career, I can tell you someone out there needs, or will need a prop like this at some point. (You can't imagine some of the various distinctive stuff I've had prop services and photographers locate for use in shoots I've directed in the past.)

In the meantime, I'd suggest you keep it on display in in your home somewhere, to fondly remind you of your Dad everyday.

Well grayceeee, so far you're doin' ok. I owned a bag just like it. I got it in 1990. The material is called naugahide which is sort of a synthetic material. The bags were made by Burton Mfg. which was a big bag manufacturer back then. An actual leather bag had a dull finish and didn't have the sheen of naugahide. Leather also weighed a lot more. I can't remember what I paid for the bag. I'm guessing $200-250. The strap is cowhide. I don't have a clue as to how much you should sell it for. Hope this helps.
