  1. Hi All,

I have some mild problems with my feet and now wear cushioned trainers to provide support as I tend to walk on the outside of my feet.

Out of the Pro SL and Flex XP does one offer more support than the other?

The Flex XP looks to have a larger sole thickness but understand the Pro SL is a premium shoe.

For what you might gain in comfort with the Flex over the Pro SL, you will give up in traction. I love my Flex as casual shoes around town but feel the traction is a bit weak, especially on wet or soft courses. Bubba Watson and a few others wearing them in tournaments but you see many more wearing Pro SL. I have one pair of Pro SL but they just do not fit my particular foot very well. Suggest you go to a golf store and try on both to decide.

Definitely need to seek a shoe fitting from someone with better knowledge than Al Bundy. I'm the reverse - I have excessive over-pronation. and I need to wear orthotics in all my shoes. Even with running/hiking shoes designed for over-pronators, I still need arch support. So I can wear whatever shoe is comfortable - with the insert.

Dale is correct (once again!). I feel it's best to try on shoes and wear them around the store to see how fit. Perhaps you'll not like they way they look or feel. What I find comfortable on my feet could be and probably is way different than you. But thanks for reaching out and I hope you find what you're looking for!

I have the Pro SL and love them, they offer a lot of support and good traction. Very comfortable shoe

I love the Flex for pure comfort. My feet survived 60+ miles of walking at Bandon Dunes last fall.

The one caveat with the Flex is if the ground is wet I recommend going with the Pro SL or a shoe with spikes.

The best advise I can give is go for a shoe fitting with a FJ rep. We have one club to our course each year. They got me fixed up real good, found out after I broke my leg and ankle I now have one foot larger than the other.

I switched from Dry Joys Tour when the Pro SL first came out, and am very pleased with them both with traction and comfort. That said, I would try both styles in the golf shop and walk around the shop in them. If possible, even swing a club in them and then judge for yourself.
  9. Thank you for all the responses everyone.

Due to lockdown I have had to purchase both shoes remotely.

I cannot feel a huge difference in comfort or fit.

What I meant to ask in my original post is one offer better support for walking that the other.

My feet get quite painful by the end of a round, that is what drew me to the Flex XP originally as they seemed to have a deeper sole.

Don't rule out the ''Premiere'' line of Foot Joy shoes.

I have been a FJ customer since I started playing golf in 1985. Currently I work as the tech rep for the FJ rep in our SC lowcountry helping with shoe fittings at events. I retired in 2011 and love this part time gig which I have been doing for over five years. I own three pairs of FLEX, one FLEX XP and eight pairs of the Pro/SLs. I use my flex for work because of the comfort they provide and the Pro/SLs on the course. I find that a lot of people like wearing the flex on the course because of the comfort level and that traction is not an issue. I have played in them and they do very well. If you are looking for a comfortable athletic shoe that provides great traction I would recommend trying the new Hyperflex, which is a cleated shoe and it has a two year warranty. This would be my professional recommendation. The laced version comes in three colors; white, blue, charcoal and the BOA in charcoal, black, white. I am a big guy, 6'2", 250 lbs and prefer the support that the Pro/SL provides. Both are designed for walkers.

Have the ProSL, have the Flex as well. Love the traction with the SL and the Flex is good but not as much traction.

As far as support, will point you in another direction. Try the FJ sneaker. They have a tennis sneaker like fit and great support, Light weight, good traction and better for walking IMHO. Have tried walking with all but sneaker is the better option.
