Most abstract post of the year!

Do you feel hotter or cooler?

    there's your answer.

I'd doubt it. The differences of wicking moisture vs direct air exposure for evaporation can be minimalized with high humidity. I prefer a light-colored wicking shirt over shirtless for comfort in those conditions. Compared to my torso generating heat, the amount of leg air exposure over long pants will be more comfortable but with little impact on overall body temperature.

But the comfort factor on its own is reason to not require long pants on course.

My head hurts ... I feel like I’m back in Thermodynamics 101!?! Living in SC, shorts are necessary!! We had a winter member of our course suggest a ban on shorts a couple of years along. He’s no longer around!!
  5. Your body temperture is lowering when wearing shorts because you have more air getting to your body.

John, that is the funniest post I have read in a long time. I have heard things like that happening before in private clubs.

More importantly, does body temperature affect ball speed, accuracy, or distance? One of my golf buddies plays a pretty good stick, and when is playing well he always tells us "He's burning up!!!" I tried to put a little more picante sauce on my sandwich but it just gave me a belly ache.

Being Canadian I have a different point of view with regards to the question of shorts vs pants. I much prefer to wear shorts not because they are cooler but because they don't get wet from walking on due in the morning. I wear shorts all the time unless the temperature drops below 5 degree C (about 40 degree F).

My granddaddy was a farmer and worn dungarees (denim jeans), cotton long johns, and cotton long sleeved shirts and a wide brimmed had in the summer when he worked in the fields. He drank lots of water and his clothes were rather damp when he came in. Me I wore shorts and tennis shoes and was hotter than he was. But he made sure we drank lots of spring water on the farm. He swore it kept him cooler and he would work from sun up to sun down. Very seldom ever sick. He retired from farming at 88 and passed away at 96. I would say that covering up from the sun in the south or anywhere you would be exposed to the sun would keep you cooler as long as you stay hydrated and wore a hat. If you ever saw pictures of people working on farms in the south or anywhere else, you will see that they were a lot of protection from the sun. My dermatologist always ask me if I cover up when playing golf and I say I wear a hat, a Titleist Aussie. Overexposure is not healthy and in my mind could increase your body temperature. Sorry you asked?????????????????? With respect.
