I was in the market for a new pair of golf shoes and unfortunately Footjoy has discontinued the Tour X (my go-to shoe) and hasn't released the new Tour Alpha (anxiously awaited!). I was intrigued by the new Footjoy Fuel, decided to give it a try, and thought I'd provide a short review.
I really like the casual look of the shoe, with an appearance similar to the Footjoy Flex. I had tried the Flex in the past and while they are very comfortable they don't provide the lateral support in the forefoot that I need to make an aggressive post on left foot during the swing. The Flex found its place as a casual shoe and doesn't see any time on the course.
Out of the box, the new Footjoy Fuel is a good looking shoe. It retains that casual look but the leather uppers and heel design put it in the category of a serious golf shoe design and not a "running shoe" look. I was initially disappointed that the leather seemed a tad stiff when I first put it on but I kneaded the toe area a bit, wore them around the house, and they loosened up nicely.
The Fuel got their first real test today with a lengthy driving range session, and I have to say they are a serious golf shoe. They have excellent stability that supports your foot through any side loading. By the end of the session, they were fully "broken in" and I felt like I was wearing very light, comfortable sneakers. The "spikeless" sole design provided more than enough traction ... these shoes will see a lot of on course action this year.
.
I also like the color options. Traditionally we felt the need to get a dark pair of shoes for dark pants. The colorway options for the new Footjoy Fuel make them perfect for any "outfit" and fit in perfectly with new styles or traditional attire.
Looking for a new shoe option? I don't usually give reviews, but this one is definitely worth a try!
