A bit tired of switching out spikes on my golf shoes. It was much more often when I was a full time walker but just a pain and sometimes they get really stuck. Anyway, I purchased some Contour Casual golf shoes last spring and just wasn't impressed with the traction. I have quite a bit of torque going through my legs and feet and to top that off I play primarily in the mornings. I now wear the shoes primarily to work and they are great. When going spikeless do the Pro SL models mirror real spikes the best or am I best off just continuing to swap the spikes every dozen to 15 rounds?

Tried to dig and find a similar thread but couldn't figure out how to search on TT site. If there has been a discussion and someone can point me that way I'd appreciate it. Just thought I'd keep an eye on possible deals in the Midwestern offseason.

  2. I like the Foot Joy Fuel. I walk, and it’s comfortable and supportive. I usually wear a 10m, and had to go to a 10.5 to get the proper fit. I have both the laced and BOA, and both are good.

FootJoy has two Facebook sites you can visit: FootJoy and FootJoy Insider. Plus, you can always go to www.footjoy.com and chat with one of the brand representatives there (I am one) about the various shoes offered. Among the spikeless models, the Pro/SLs (regular, Carbon, and Sport) offer the best traction. The more than 180 points of contact with the ground provide excellent traction in all types of terrain and weather conditions. The Carbon version will feel a bit more stable, due to the thin insert of carbon fiber in the midsoles that helps the shoe flex back to its original shape as you walk, which also helps reduce foot fatigue. The Sport version has a performance mesh upper that makes them a bit lighter and more breathable in warm weather. Hope that helps.
  4. I have the Pro SL and the Stratos shoes. I have never had an issue with the Pro SL shoes slipping. They are great to walk the course in. The Stratos shoes are equally comfortable and easy to walk in . I have a wide foot, and the toe box on both of those models are very comfortable.

As a 62 year old, my speed and torque may not be as high as yours, but I purchased the Footjoy Pro SL and have about 30 rounds with them and have not experienced any significant wear so far. The Pro SL definitely supports and wears better than the higher-end Ecco golf shoes...and they are as comfortable.

I have tried several of the spike less models. I like the Pro SL's the best. For me they are the closet thing I have seen to the traction of metal spikes.

Pro SL gives excellent traction. Also there are some Premier spikeless models that offer excellent traction. Your best bet is to go to footjoy.com and check it out.
  8. ProSL's grip pretty as do the Flex XP. Can't go wrong with FJ!!

My right honorable friend "pulplvr" has given you some great advice. He is very knowledgeable of the products and has a great collection to back up his knowledge. I have worn FJs since 1985 and found that the ProSLs are the very best spikeless shoe you can find. Fit, stability, durability. They are superior if taken care of. I have had some of mine for many cycles and the spikes are in great shape. I do not wear them a lot on parking lots or hard surfaces. I also use saddle soap to clean them and have cedar shoe trees to extend their lives. One thing that I have found with FJ shoes, I wear a 12W in every style, and I have several styles in my rotation of shoes. I do love the new Premieres and Traditions. I like the spike shoes and do not mind changing when needed. Because of my love and knowledge of FJ products I was hired to work PT by the District Sales Representative in this Area (Charleston, Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head, Savanah) in April 2016. I assist at events/pro-ams in this are in, ensuring participants are getting the proper fit.

Thanks everyone for the comments and advice. I will be hitting some balls virtually at my course this weekend and will see if they have any of the SLs on clearance I can try on or even buy. I am a traditionalist at heart and will likely still keep at least one pair of FootJoys that have spikes for sloppy conditions and whatnot. Just have tired of changing the spikes out so often. Have a great New Year.

If you are playing up north and play in sloppy and cold conditions, I would look into getting a pair of the FootJoy Winter Golf Boots Black, Winter Warmth and 100% Waterproof Protection. They do have spikes. I have had a pair for over about ten years and they work well when the course is extremely wet. Our course before the renovation was very soggy at high tides and during the spring rains. We had to tread water and my feet never got wet. Worth the investment. Based on my experience, would highly recommend them. Just keep cedar trees in them when not in use and clean them with saddle soap. Last a long time. I wear same size a normal golf shoes.

Looking to play spikeless in the new year as well. Only ever heard good things about the SLs.

    Likewise a Pro-SL believer.

For on/off the course wear, FJ has a jogger that has impressed me. My swing speed is not great but I don’t seem to have an issue on damp conditions. They also have better traction on snow than NB joggers, but I wish I didn’t know that.
