I have 2 New Years resolutions...play more golf and lose a few pounds. So I decided I want to start walking to enjoy the game and burn some calories. One question for you guys that walk, how big if a difference does 1lb of bag weight make over the course of 9 or 18? I like the Players 4 Carbon, Players 4 and Players 4 Plus...with the weight increasing with each of those models. So if I like the look of the 4 Plus how much more comfortable would walking with the Carbon be based on the weight difference? I appreciate the opinions!

Hope this helps. I have a Players 4 Stadry from a couple years ago and can walk 18 with no issues at all. Had no problem carrying when I played Pinehurst #4 at the TTI a couple years ago. Had my hip replaced last month so I'm working on getting back walking 18 as soon as possible.

While the weight difference is there, most weight comes from your clubs and gear. When I walk I use my Players 4 Carbon but only carry 12 clubs and 6 golf balls. That is quite a bit lighter than carrying 14 clubs, 12 balls, and a lot of other stuff in the bag.
  5. I did the same last year, committed to walking when allowed.

I started the year off with a Players 4 Plus. In the middle of the year I wanted to change things up when I saw a white Players 4 at a shop. The Players 4 feels so different not just because of the weight, it's slightly smaller so the clubs are closer to your body when walking. It's all relative, but this is what i notice the most, i feel more agile with the smaller Players 4 when walking around.
  6. I walk quite a bit, often in bad weather. I had a Stadry 4up bag that I used until the graphite supports broke. Now I use a Stadry Players 4 and Linksmaster. I considered getting a Players 4 Carbon, as it is really light, but felt the water resistance was worth the extra weight. With the Linksmaster, I couldn't resist getting a navy blue camo, so I'm willing to suck up the extra weight for the look.

Frankly, the main thing I find that helps is keeping about 6 balls only, and any bag doesn't seem too bad.

I had the premium staff carry bag which I loved but found it too heavy for competition rounds once loaded up with everything you needed. After 16 or 17 holes I’d feel it in my back slightly. I’ve since switched to a cart bag on a push electric trolley for all comps. Then for practise rounds I have the carbon in a couple of colours and also the premium carry bag with the little nubbins. I generally just carry 8 or 9 clubs and 3 balls for these rounds and both bags are really light. The premium carry isn’t great for dewy mornings though so I just keep it in the car as a backup because it rolls up small

Thanks for all the replies! I gathered the same thing from the TT facebook group as well, its mostly about managing what's in the bag. I am waiting for the new colors of the Players 4 to show up because that white/navy is looking really good!
  9. I have a Players 4+ bag. I like bag with the exception of the zipper for the tee pocket. With the bag being carried in the traditional fashion (club heads behind your right shoulder), the direction of the tee pocket zipper opens from the downside of the pocket. Meaning your tees (or other items) fall out if you open the pocket while carrying the bag or if you forget to close the zipper when you pick up the bag to carry. The zipper should have been installed with the opening to the upside.

If having all your clubs is necessary, I would recommend purchasing a Clicgear push cart. Very lightweight. When I was physically able to walk, my answer to the freedom of not carrying a golf bag and ruining my golf shirts in hot weather. Just another thought.

I use both the Linksmaster and Players 4. The Linksmaster is heavier, but the single strap is easier to navigate from shoulder to shoulder. I play 14 clubs and only keep 4 or 5 balls, rangefinder, valuable bag for tees, coins and Band AIDS, w couple of cigars, and a Hydroflask. I’ll use the Linksmaster for special events or courses.
