Optimal Launch and Spin into the wind

    Is there a particular launch angle and and spin rate that is optimal when hitting into a 2 club wind? 

    I'm about to play 36 holes this weekend and there is a brutal 593 yard par 5 on the back 9 of the course that tends to play dead into a strong wind. I was wondering if anyone knows of any data to support the old advice of swinging easier and teeing the ball lower. Or is that advise more of a mental tool to not do something regretful?

    Good question I'd like to see this data. I'm sure its dependent on conditions but I'd like to see the launch conditions that are needed to avoid "ballooning".

    I try not to think of that.  My best drives into the wind have been where I swing smoothly.  Worst thing I have done is try to smash the ball.
