    TT Members,

I have a 18 degree fairway wood that went I miss hit it's generally a slice and a 19 degree hybrid that I miss hit hooks.  I have tried everything to understand why from changing the setup of the club, changing my setup, changing the actual grip (adding grip tape 1/64, and vice versa).  I usually do not do anything different with my swing except ball position (which I also experimented with).  Can't figure out why.  Help!!

    Hi Ben,

    Thanks for the question.

There could be many reasons why you are missing the FWY and Hybrid in different directions. One possible explanation is the offset. Hybrids typically have more offset than FWY woods and this can cause a little more draw bias. As well, individuals tend to hit down on hybrids while they try to "sweep" FWY woods. The more someone hits down on the ball, the more likely they are to hit a draw, depending on their face angle.

Try hitting down more on the FWY wood, you may notice an easier time drawing the golf ball. Assuming this is what you want.

Keep us up to date on the progress.

    Hey Bubba,

Thanks for the response.  I will give that a try with the FW.  I might even try to swing my Hybrids more with a "sweeping" thought.

Where is your miss with your irons or your driver?  Typically I hit a hybrid more like an iron and a fairway wood more like a driver.  Also ball position (I know you said you experimented with that) but typically, if the ball is further back in your stance it will go more right.  And lastly, for me personally, I find I swing my fairway wood "harder" sometimes.  When I do that, I risk losing it right.  With my hybrid I almost always swing more "controlled" so when I miss, it's left.  Probably not very helpful, but hopefully a few things to think about.

    tdogg21,

Thanks for the response.  I am fortunate that when I miss with my irons it's generally a push or a pull.  I don't tend to slice or hook them.  With my driver (913D2) set to B4 which is the most fade, my miss is a gentle slice or a serious fade.  I think you might have just cracked the nut for me here with the swinging "harder" comment.

I am exactly oposite of you where I tend to swing harder with my hybrid and more in control with my FW.  This might be it, thank you!!

Great!  Hopefully that helps.  It's easier said than done, but I really try to focus on tempo and timing and less on "power."  I try to let the clubs do the work.

I have a similar issue with my hybrid.  I tend to hit a baby draw when I'm swinging well, and my miss is a big fade with every club in my bag EXCEPT for my 913h 19*.  I tend to hit a draw/hook that's often tough to control.  The offset point above is helpful and I may try adjusting it to have a slight fade bias.  Fingers crossed, it works out.

I have similar issues, hooked hybrids, but pushed fairway woods.  While I haven't resolved my 3 wood swing yet, I realized that when it comes to my swing with hybrids, I have to commit to the shot and fire through the ball.  Whenever I try to layoff, the sweeping hook is usually the result.
