    Hey TT,

I am just starting to really get into golf at the age of 26. I am 6'6" and never really had clubs that fit me so I have some bad habits. An old neighbor recently gave me some of his old clubs ( he is 6'4"). I am going to use them this year and then go and get fitting for some 716 clubs when they come out and get new woods wedges and putter to have a nice set to developer my game with.

However since I do have bad habits I am thinking about trying to learn the A swing. Does anyone know anything about this technique? Would it be good for someone just really learning to get a consistent swing? I appreciate they help and I am open to other suggestions.

I have been reading the board the last few weeks and have enjoyed the topics and comments.

    Thanks,

    Logan

There is no shortage of good instructors promoting online/hard cover/DVD instruction, Butch and Hank have instructions as well. The Ledbetter book is inexpensive enough, but I would think twice about all the aids. Eventually, someone with a good instruction eye will need to see your swing and work with you to get your swing to have a square club face at contact. No one method will work with every golfer just as off the rack clubs, even Titleist, only fit 10% of golfers correctly. My problem with DVD materials is I only think I'm mimicking the lesson plan. I never saw a reverse pivot on my own. Took a trained eye to help me correct that.

Thanks Don. I will look into some of Butch and Hank's materials as well. I am really just looking for something to get my started on the correct track. That I can consistently strike the ball with unfortunately this is the biggest obstacle for my game currently, but I am having fun getting out there and trying to get better.

Best thing I ever did to improve consistency in my game is work on the most basic fundamentals - grip, posture, & stance. There is plenty of great instruction to be found on YouTube as well. My favorite for instruction is MeandMyGolf, but I also like to watch Peter Finch Golf because he has such an amazing swing. Mark Crossfield is another good one for anything concerning the various theories out there about the golf swing, but I find him to be a little lacking on the actual instruction because he really seems to want to push viewers to go get lessons from a certified PGA instructor. Not that I'd steer people away from lessons, but sometimes you just need something to try in order to correct a swing issue and he just doesn't provide a lot "quick" fixes.

    Hi Logan,

A golf swing is just like a finger print.  Everybody does something a little different but usually have the same result.  Bad habits are fairly easy to fix but the end result may not look like RM or Jordan Spieth.  Do what works best for you and a swing coach will help you mold what you already have.  I have had very good luck with lessons! One thing is for sure...you have to be willing to accept change, and the only way that you know it's changing is that it does NOT feel right!

    Good luck!

    Matt

Thanks Matt. I appreciate the help.

As a follow up, I have purchased the book and read I cover to cover. I found it very informative, and have added some of the tips to my swing. Keeping the club head so far out of the backswing felt very unnatural to me, however the pivot action taught for the hips has helped me to hit more shot straight. I am enjoying hitting the range and trying to develop a swing I can repeat throughout my round. The more I practice the more excited I get for the 716s to come out!

Also I have really enjoyed reading all of the threads I have learned a lot about golf in the last few weeks just from hanging around here.
