Anyone had ALIF Spinal Fusion Surgery?

    After 20+ years of suffering with degenerative disc disease, I am tentatively scheduled to have my S1, L5, and L4 fused together using the ALIF procedure.

    My questions are:

    1. Has anyone had this or any other lower back fusion done?
    2. What was the recovery like?
    3. How long before you could start working on your game and are there any noticeable side effect from it? 
      1. Game rehab steps your Dr.’s prescribed
      2. Limited rotation
      3. Stance adjustments (I'm over 6' tall),
      4. Swing path adjustments and so on...

    I just want to know what to expect.

    Don't know about the ALIF, but I had my L5-S1 fused and they went through stomach..... 4 days in hospital with morphine drip and painful recovery.. That said, I'm pain free and no limitations, best thing I ever did! PT was hard because I went beyond what doc and therapist recommended, stubborn! I was putting 6 weeks later and full swings about three- four months, and those were baby swings!

    No I have not.  My surgeries have been limited to hand, elbow and knee.  Any surgery is a serious matter, so I just wanted to wish you well and I hope your recovery is quick.

    On a side note, I'm originally from the Quad Cities...born in Moline and grew up on the Iowa side in Bettendorf.  Been living in St Louis for the 35 years.
