I've been working hard on my game these last few years I've broubgt the handicap down a quite few srtoks. I'm making more putts getting better around the greens and hitting more fairways. The one thing that doesn't seem to be improving are greens in regulation. Any pointers how to improve in this. It seems to be when I'm hitting anything biger than a wedge into the green. Par 3's have killed every decent round iv played this year..

    Help.

Try not to aim at the pin all the time, courses put pin locations on greens that bring the most amount of trouble into play. Aim at the fat part of the green, two put and take your par! Good luck!

    Todd,

I agree with Matt.  One thing you might want to look at is: do you feel your swing is the same with clubs other than your wedge?  Also, if you are ending up short, try taking 1 more club and make a smooth swing.  I suggest going to a local golf professional that could help you with your game and possibly, course management.

Emphasize hip rotation on the downswing. Faster hip rotation (not lateral movement) is the key to solid ball striking. It is something I always need to focus on.

That profile pic is great btw :)

Practicing your irons on the range, changing the iron and target each time.  Go from 4 to 7, 6 to pw, etc.  That way you aren't hitting several balls with 7 iron to one target then grabbing 8 iron and hitting several balls at one target.  Also take short breaks between each shot so that you don't get into driving range rhythm.  Read and react!

Until you find your form to hone in on the pin all of the time, which even as a skilled golfer you may or may not want to do, aim for the center of the green. Often times, most often times, the pin is not located in the center so you are already giving yourself less of a chance for a two-putt par.

what i have been doing that has helped me, i started to work on being 130-100y in and work on my short game. it has actually

helped me be able to get on the greens in regulation. since from doing that the past two years. i was able to bring my hcp from a

12 to 7hcp. when I'm looking at a par3, i always try to figure out where the pin is located at and how far back does it look from back

of the green. another thing i look at is distance, i could club up and take a easy swing and know it will land on the green or should

stay with the same club or club down and take a more aggressive approach. doing that i know I'm going to be swinging harder and

sometimes doing that your ball could not end up where your wanting it or coming up short. I'm a smaller guy and people i play with

are always bigger then me so whatever they usually hit, I'm always a club up. its funny cause they will laugh at me but when i'm on

the green and there not, who has the last laugh. try and remember what your iron distance are and maybe club up one and take a

more easy swing then trying to attack it harder. and i always try and land the ball more further back then what i think the pin is at.

Take one less club and swing easier toward the middle of the green. Imagine the pin is not there and swing easy on that extra club. Swinging softer will allow for more control but make sure you let your body move freely coming down and do not try to steer the ball.

    Todd,

It looks like mostly everyone on here is generally saying the same thing.... and they're right! Make things easier on yourself. Taking more controlled swings at easier targets is going to make you a lot more consistent.

As a 5.5 handicap, no doubt the biggest difference between my scores now and when I was an 8-12 handicap is limiting the blow up holes. You can bounce back from a bogey a lot easier than you can from a double or triple.

Know when to go for it and when to play it safe. And as you become more confident in making those simple swings, you'll find it easier to make those tough shots as well.  Go Low!

My first question would be where are your misses going? Are they consistently one direction? I play pretty well, and there are 4-6 holes a round where I don't even acknowledge the flag on the green. Just let my ball flight find the short grass somewhere.....
