I have hit a situation in the last few weeks, I am lifting/turning  my head right before impact. What used to be second nature is now my main focus and it shouldn't be. Any thoughts as how to get back to my old self ?

I go through my long list of checkpoints in my practice swing as part of a shot routine. Especially on putts, that includes looking at the hole and then watching the practice stroke. So when I do swing, other than controlling tempo on the backswing, I just repeat the sequence without thinking. When I fail to follow the shot routine, I am capable of any number of swing faults.

IMO, check your posture.  Earlier in the year I took a lesson and the first thing the instructor had me work on was posture and setting up correctly after looking at my set up, i was too hunch over therefore causing my head to move.

For 5 minutes a day while i'm at home, i had to set up w/ the correct posture and then back off.  Do it again and again and again for 5 minutes straight, sometimes longer.  I did this anytime i wasn't on the golf course.  I can tell you it's been the best summer I've ever had in regards to hitting the ball solid.  The new posture allowed me to keep my head steady through-out the whole swing.

Here's a picture of what the instructor had me do with an iron behind my back etc..  Took a while to get used to but after practicing at home, you get to the course and it almost seems like ya body wants to be in that position.   I hope this helps and best of luck.

I struggle with lifting my head during the backswing but have determined it is caused by over swinging. Once I go past my body's limitations with regards to flexibility in order to make the swing longer I compensate with lifting my head. This leads to very inconsistent golf for me. Anytime I start swinging bad I go back to basics. If your fundamentals are solid, make sure everything is in check before overanalyzing the problem. Every golfer does this and for me it typically means I'm going to continue to have swing issues. Best of luck.
