This Fall I decided to go through a Swing Change.  In an effort too change my path through , I had to alter a bad habit I created over the last few years of trying to get the club to square at impact.

I have been practicing like a mad fool  and will be continuing with a lesson or two to monitor my changes.  So far its not as easy as I thought but when I hit a nice shot it all makes sense.

Just wondering if anyone has attempted the same and how long  before  it become effective for you.

It depends on how drastic the change is, but I do know that whenever you try to change something, it feels uncomfortable and your natural reaction is to go back swinging the way you were.  In my experience, to expedite the process, you have to really exaggerate the change.  The ball will tell you if you did it right, it never lies.

    Best of luck.

Congratulations Paul for having the guts to make a significant change. The time it will take depends on how much you practice this change vs how much you play. There's an old saying, you can't big changes on the course. You should take slow motion pictures of every part of your swing. In order for long term results you need to see it in your mind and feel where you should be at every point in your swing. Good luck.

Great thought on the slow motion pic's.  I did attempt one round with my Buddy with the changes and struggled, luckily it was a very casual round and he encouraged me not to go back to my old swing.  I have been on the practice range ever since.

Thanks to All for the encouragement and Great Advice

Good luck sir!  I decided to change my swing last year. Its tough at first but in the end its worth it. The range is your best friend. I found that on the course i was more likely to give into bad habits in order to improve my score, but on the range i was ok with shanking a few.

I found that i slowed down my swing some in order to make sure i wasn't using my old swing pattern which resulted in a significant loss of distance but huge improvements in accuracy. My missed used to be potentially 30 yards off the mark but reduced to 5-10 yards off with the new and improved swing. The lack of distance was more than made up for in accuracy. I don't mind hitting my hybrid into greens as long as i get that GIR. Trust me FIR, GIR, 2 putt is a lot of fun.

At the beginning of the year i posted some big scores and wondered if i could stick with it. But i pushed through with lots of practice and my last 9 holes last year was 1 over par. I was elated. This year i will work more on speeding up my swing and getting some distance back.

The swing change will be well worth it. Just stick with it.

    Good luck

Change is something that must have regression before progression. Over the last year i have tried to overcome a couple a major changes to the swing that through me into complete frustration. The mental adjustment was something much more difficult than the physical aspect of the swing. I began to use the range much more than playing the weekly 2 or 3 rounds. old tendencies always seem to come out on the course, and by using playing rounds more as practice than for a score seemed to help me overcome the change.

Great thoughts Randy. I really appreciate the input. I have felt that regression a lot and yes my old habits and tendencies creep in for fear of not scoring well, or just embarrassment. But I really believe that the change is for the better. I am willing to sweat it out. I have seen some small glimpses of what the outcome will be if I just keep at it.
Thanks to You and everyone who offered your advice. I am very appreciative
  8. I guess i have to ask, why did you think a swing change was needed or advice from a pro? How long do you think it will take? usually something like this does not happen in a season and can be nerve racking when you are trying to enjoy a great game. I don't know your age, but in my case i will be 62 this year and seems like i change something every season to compensate for age i guess. It is a fickle game and as everyone knows you can be going along good and seems like for some reason the wheel falls off for awhile. But if you see a end result of a lot of strokes saved and a season or 2 of working at it, go for it. Enjoy the game and don't be embarrassed over what you shoot, like i said, it is a fickle game. Wish you the best,,,,,
