I've recently gone back inside and working on a Track Man and I've identified a real concern with my driver swing speed but I'm not quite sure how to address it.

To be clear this isn't a general concern around swing speed or just interested in increasing the length of my drives. My swing speed with my irons is perfectly suitable for my ability. As an example my 5 iron swing speed is 88 - 90 mph with a smash factor consistently over 1.35 often approaching 1.4. so very efficient.

I say this to because I want to establish that I am flexible / strong / capable of generating increased club head speed with my driver.

My driver swing speed though is only around 96-98 mph and I don't like feeling as though I'm trying to swing that hard. The shots I hit with my driver have a consistent shot shape and would find the fairway. Additionally these shots also have a high smash factor over 1.4.

What can I do to increase the swing speed with this driver because the numbers are clear and I'm leaving valuable yardage on the table?

    Hi Jon,

I have the reverse problem. I tent to sacrifice some speed to ensure more accurate approach shots, favoring stability. But with my driver, I can really engage my lower body and force off the ground. I don't have the timing down perfect so if I try than with my irons I sometimes hit fat or thin. Most of the time I out drive other muni players by 10 to 20 yard, but I hit two clubs more than them when comparing irons.

My advise, check yourself on slo-mo video. Make sure you are not losing efficiency in your arms or release timing, and see if you can unlock power from those large muscles in your legs.

You can have good trackman #'s at impact yet be losing momentum. I have 2 swings, 1 pretty good, 1 pretty weak. They both have the same club head speed, yet they vary 40 yards in distance. When I have the proper concept of my hands slowing down through impact, then snapping at the ball, my smash factor is high. Tough call to make. Work on consistent contact and finishing balanced, the yardage will come.....
