I've decided to dedicate this season to getting better, not just playing golf. Anyone else share this goal? I usually have lofty goals for the year, just don't put in the complete effort to make it happen. This year I'm gonna practice more than I play, and hopefully achieve my goal. I haven't shot a round on the 60's in a long time....This is my year!!........

Same here! I have put a lot of time in this winter on building a consistent swing, flat left wrist. I am have been working with a golf coach since the beginning of 2016. I am fortunate that I can overpower most courses with my length. So all winter we worked on a consistent swing, chipping and most important putting. I got my handicap down to a 5.7 index last year, looking to get to scratch this year! Good luck with getting back into the 60's. I hope to get there this year! I was close last year with a low score of 71.

Same approach here. My goal this year is to get better but also to shoot 80 or better in each round I play in this year.

    Edward,

It's always good to have ambitious goals. I hope you achieve yours. My question is do you have a plan, that you can share with us, on how you will achieve them?

Spending the majority of practice time around the greens, and putting. Those 4-10' putts are the key, I think. I know for me, it's focusing on keeping it in play off the tee. I'm pretty long, so tightening up the wedge play is important to keeping a good round going. In my case, the mind is the crucial aspect. I'm the guy that generally plays 12-14 holes pretty well, and does the "crash and burn" on the other 4-6 because of my focus tailing off......That's golf!.....

    Edward,
Sounds a lot like me. I like your plan. I am not as long as I once was as I am getting older so I focus on my short game and keeping me in the fairways. Crashing and burning on 4-6 holes is fixable. It is mental toughness that will overcome this lapse. You can do better than this. Do you have a consistent pre-shot routine for all your strokes? This will help you if you work on this and stay with it on the course. Try this...it could help you get over this hump.

    Best Wishes,

I try to be very consistent in my pre-shot and my putting routine. I does help me maintain focus.....

Goals rock... Especially with a plan. I played a fair amount in 2014 (my standards), but a little less in 2015 so my 2015 goal was not met. 2016 - shoot a round at a real course under 90.... I have had many great 9's, but have not managed a full 18 under 90. Here's hoping for goal to be attained.

Here's to all reaching their goals in 2016!
