I found taking one more club and swinging easy produces better results than swinging hard with less of club

Please feel free to share what works for you.

    Best wishes ,John

That's a good thought, I like to do that especially with wedges than irons

This time of the year, I am almost always using one to two more clubs than normal on approach shots to the green. As far as swinging easy, I have found that even on the tee, a swing fully within in my limits gives me far better results than "swinging for the fences."

I’m learning that more each time I play. I seem to draw/fade more often when trying to swing too hard.
  5. More club...less swing for me! I just swallow my pride (and club up) when playing with
my usual group, as I just don't hit the ball as far as they do.
"What club did you hit"? Trust me you don't want to know.
Just try to play my game.

Golf has become a game of numbers and often the "feel" part of the game gets lost in the shuffle. Different club choices and trajectory are the best part of being a "feel" player. Creativity is the greatest tool in the game. Good comments above for sure. Companies don't offer the starter sets (3,5,7,9 irons) that alot of us learned with. If it was a 6 iron shot, you would have to make due with a 5 or 7 and make swing adjustments. You had to learn to be creative. I never had a sand wedge until high school.

A friend of mine's father had a great quote.
"You meet a whole lot of different people when you're past the hole"

So long as you get it to the hole, no one should care what you hit.

I'm in the"feel" category also. Numbers are good to know but sometimes there are other variables involved such as lie, pin position, wind or being in between clubs.
  9. I have a friend that I cart with sometimes that will look over and say "Why the hell are you swinging so hard?"..... usually that will flip a switch in my head and get me back to swinging with even tempo. A nice and easy swing is far more accurate than trying to kill it. When I swing to hard I have a tendency to drop my shoulder and pull the ball (old baseball swing). Was this question about hitting the green? Yeah... not often

When I swing hard I usually hit a pull, low. I think it is because I am not leading with my knees coming down with my arms. Goes far but way left!

My best ball striking definitely comes when swinging smooth and easy. I get in to trouble when trying to hit something hard. And there is rarely a distance loss when I smooth swing it Better contact, straighter shots, better results...

Smooth swing always. Club up or down depends on all conditions around me.

This is something that I need to improve on. I have a tendency to transition from my back swing to quickly thinking I am going to get more distance. I know this is not true. A smooth tempo is what I have been trying to improve. I just have to get past the area between my two ears!

I guess I'm out of the norm....at least for this group.

Swinging easy doesn't work as well for me usually. On anything but wedges where I use feel, I need to go at least 80%.

I am pretty good from tee to green and when I strike, I think to myself, THAT is where I am going to make this ball land, and THIS is how I want it to fly and I take an aggressive swing and make that happen.

If I believe it, that is what usually happens.
