I hit the ball with the driver pretty solid, averaging anywhere from 280-290. However i dont really explode with my legs or jump at all. What exercises can you do to help with exploding. Ive been doing jump squats but wpuld love to hear what works for you. Thanks\/

I think jumping is a new idea so being a senior player that can still get it out there close to 300 yds, I've always used a conventional weight transfer through the ball.
  3. Oh, N...
The modern world and the vagaries of Spell Checker has risen up and bitten you.
I opened the thread curious as to what exactly you were doing with your leg...
Thought perhaps it was a reference to that bloke who ends his swing with that Happy Gilmour twirl!

Hope you get some serious responses.

I just watched Cameron McCormick's Skill code latest episode (Use the Force) that aired on Monday and he goes into this a little bit with a drill that may help. It shouldn't be too hard to find the episode since it just aired.

I was doing single leg jump squats for a bit and anxious to get back in the gym when I recover (long story). I also remember reading something about tour pros and one thing that have in common--vertical height in their jumps.

I'd suggest anything that helps your jumps should help. Jumping rope, is great too.

    Best of luck!

Thanks for the video. Jonathan! Great detail on the lead leg being the key point of focus.

NH, a couple good exercises to try are skaters and plyometric lateral jumps.  Found this good article with other options:

    Good luck!

Not disagreeing with anyone on vertical jump drills, but I doubt there is anyone on the Tour who can beat Dustin Johnson's vertical leap and he never jumps when he hits the ball. Forward thrust and weight transfer toward the target equals power in golf shots.

Sam Snead was a great athlete but smooth as silk powering the ball.

Deno, Great pics! Those are way cool!!!

I don't think it's as much about how or whether you jump or not when you are hitting the ball, but more that you are able to jump vertically and use that power in your swing. Cameron Champ doesn't jump either (I think), but I bet he is able to jump vertically pretty well. They are both bigger guys.

Justin Thomas, on the other hand is 5'10" and only 160 lbs and he does leap in his swing.

The bottom line is that you have to be able to leap vertically to hit the long ball, or so it seems, but that doesn't mean you need to lift off necessarily at impact.
