Just like the weather in the New England region, golf has 4 distinct “seasons”.

    Fall (Post-Season):

Looking back at your In-Season results, reflect on what you did well, and what you would like to improve. Formulate a game plan for the Off-Season. WRITE IT DOWN! Take stock of your physical conditioning as well. Simply ask yourself: ”What do I need to do to play my best next season?” Rest your body and mind…get completely away from the game, focusing on other activities (for me…skiing!). After an adequate amount of rest, your mind & body will start to get “itchy” for the game once again!

    Winter (Off-Season):

Start to put into action the game plan you developed during the Fall (Post-Season). Your mind and body will be energized to start the process. Work diligently & methodically on the aspects of your game that need improvement. Working indoors, utilizing technology, paying particular attention to learning/making exact movements are some of the items to focus on. A GREAT time to work on putting stroke mechanics, too! Don’t forget to check your equipment, making sure everything is in proper order!

    Spring (Pre-Season):

Time to fine-tune everything you have been working on during the Off-Season. Check your mechanics…work on ball-flight…learn your distances with every club…practice & fine-tuning your short game…spend a lot of time making putts on the putting green....work on distance control as well. Practice on the golf course…play different shots…work on curving the ball… play shots with different trajectories…get comfortable with turf interaction.

    Summer (In-Season):

Focus on playing the game! Trust your Off-season & Pre-Season training and focus on score….winning! Maintain your game…keep everything in order….possibly making small tweaks here n’ there….but now is the time to PLAY! Trust the "process" to get the "results" you are seeking!

Remember: good golf just doesn’t happen by accident! Following a precise & organized game plan will help you achieve your goals!

Would love to get everyone’s feedback! Please respond with your thoughts on how you go about getting better!

Thanks, "Gsoup"! This is the outline we attempt to follow for all GolfRite students. One of the aspects of the game that is sooo much fun...the journey! Enjoying each segment of the process...

You gotta love working out! (to some degree, anyway! haha)
You gotta enjoy getting new equipment (who doesn't like getting new "toys"...even new grips on your old clubs!)
You gotta enjoy working on your mechanics...full swing, short game & putting
You gotta enjoy making putts and working on distance control
You gotta enjoy practicing on the golf course...fooling around...doing all kinds of crazy thing to help you expand your abilities

    YOU GOTTA LOVE WINNING!!!!!

Skip You sound like the coach I never have had. Can I subscribe to your Blog...HA! I've been in Winter mode since late November her in Colorado. Hitting the gym for flexibility & conditioning along with getting fit for a full new bag of clubs. I'm fortunate to fly out to AZ a few times to get in some golf with friends, now ready for Spring to arrive. Thanks for sharing your knowledge! ct

CT: ML and I JUST got back from 2 weeks in Vail last Friday...another "Epic" trip!

Now that I am home, I met up with a fellow PGA Professional on Monday, and he helped me formulate a workout routine to help improve flexibility and strength. I will get on Trackman later today to build a baseline on where my swing mechanics are at present. Every month thereafter, I will access my progress. So...even with 12" of snow on the ground...and more coming...pre-season has started for me, along with my other students.

PM me at: skipguss@golfrite.com and we'll communicate further.

    Gotta love Vail...gotta love golf...GOTTA LOVE TITIEIST/FJ!!!!!

Other than fall may last 3-4 weeks and we declare which 3 days were spring once summer kicks, then there is playing time. I like to forget the 5 months that is winter. I have worked on putting over this winter, especially since so many weekends have been bitter cold or dumping snow.
Year-round I work on stretching and strengthening. I try to do something every day. This doesn't ramp up in the winter, although I have more/some excuses to not go to the gym if I'm headed to a course. I still stretch and foam roll at home on days not at the gym. I don't know if it is part of being 69 but I take 5 days off - I can feel the loss of tone and flexibility.
Now, only 6-7 weeks until the courses will be playable. Patriots' Day in MASS and our golf season start are about the same time.

This sounds like a really good blue print for my season preparation. Thanks for sending.

But Skip, we don't gotta enjoy the winter off season do we? I'd like to TRY playing so much golf that maybe I'd get sick of it? Don't think so though, addict for 45+ years. Not that I don't love other sports, but I don't need to rely on anyone else for golf. Come on Spring!!!!! Please
