Just like the weather in the New England region, golf has 4 distinct “seasons”.
Fall (Post-Season):
Looking back at your In-Season results, reflect on what you did well, and what you would like to improve. Formulate a game plan for the Off-Season. WRITE IT DOWN! Take stock of your physical conditioning as well. Simply ask yourself: ”What do I need to do to play my best next season?” Rest your body and mind…get completely away from the game, focusing on other activities (for me…skiing!). After an adequate amount of rest, your mind & body will start to get “itchy” for the game once again!
Winter (Off-Season):
Start to put into action the game plan you developed during the Fall (Post-Season). Your mind and body will be energized to start the process. Work diligently & methodically on the aspects of your game that need improvement. Working indoors, utilizing technology, paying particular attention to learning/making exact movements are some of the items to focus on. A GREAT time to work on putting stroke mechanics, too! Don’t forget to check your equipment, making sure everything is in proper order!
Spring (Pre-Season):
Time to fine-tune everything you have been working on during the Off-Season. Check your mechanics…work on ball-flight…learn your distances with every club…practice & fine-tuning your short game…spend a lot of time making putts on the putting green....work on distance control as well. Practice on the golf course…play different shots…work on curving the ball… play shots with different trajectories…get comfortable with turf interaction.
Summer (In-Season):
Focus on playing the game! Trust your Off-season & Pre-Season training and focus on score….winning! Maintain your game…keep everything in order….possibly making small tweaks here n’ there….but now is the time to PLAY! Trust the "process" to get the "results" you are seeking!
Remember: good golf just doesn’t happen by accident! Following a precise & organized game plan will help you achieve your goals!
Would love to get everyone’s feedback! Please respond with your thoughts on how you go about getting better!
