Hello everyone, I wanted to just run this by my fellow Team Titleist members because I feel like there is so much golf knowledge in this group, maybe I can get some help. I have struggled with a weird grip issue when I address the ball. My grip is neutral and when I'm taking a practice swing I'm good to go. When I address the ball, I tend to feel as if I need to close the face a ton and just start turning over my right hand at address. What the heck is going on? Is my right hand just too dominant?

I'd love any suggestions you might have, I can make good contact and I'm a 15 handicapper, but feel like I could be better if I figured this out. It might be all mental.

    Thanks, Greg

The first thing I can think of is to see a good teacher in your area. It sounds like a flaw in your setup and a good teacher should be able to get you back on track. Good Luck.

Love to know the resulting ball flight; High?Low?Left? Right? I had the opposite issue. I actually shut the club face down, resulting in low, ugly shut hooks. I used a band-aid approach to straighten myself out. I had to open the face of the driver a few degrees and then re-adjust my hands. It worked, but it's not for everybody.Eventually I realized it was more of a swing issue; I needed more extension, and needed to try and get the ball to stay on the face a little longer.

Still working on it, but it's better.

    Hang in there.....

The ball flight is usually, 8 times out of 10, high and pulled left but no hook or slice ball movement, just started left and staying left. So frustrating.

Best advice you're gonna get on here is to go see a PGA professional! Someone who is actually there to see whats happening that can help you in the flesh. Good luck buddy!
  6. Could be part of your trigger to start your takeaway that you have developed. For a visual example of what i mean have a look at bryson dechambeaus trigger. He lifts his driver vertically then puts it down and then starts his takeaway. At address concentrate on doing something else to trigger your takeaway. Eg tap your foot twice and then start.

If you are hitting it straight left with no slice (like a straight pull), it sounds to me like you are coming over the top, but "8 out of 10 times" the face itself is square to your path (not your target) at impact.

My guess without seeing your swing is that there is something wrong with your alignment at address and subconsciously you are adjusting your grip to compensate.

This is not uncommon for someone who sets up with their body slightly closed. (Do you?)

There are many possibilities as to why this could be happening. My advice is to ask a pro when you see one around the range at your home course to just look at your set up and maybe watch a few swings. He/she will be able to tell right away what the problem is. All the pros I know are usually happy and willing to make a suggestion without giving you a full 1/2 hour lesson at 50-100 bucks. They are smart enough to understand how to get you quickly headed back in the right direction, and hopeful that you may come see them down the road for some more in-depth help once they establish their positive image and effect on you. Basically, they know a little goodwill can go a long way.

In my experience, a $50, 1/2 hour lesson from a PGA teaching pro can be far more fruitful than buying a $500 driver or set of new irons that you still pull left! JMHO.

Love the replies, thanks so much for all the input, it's been a maddening issue. I am heading out to play 18 today, I will try replacing that weird issue with a different trigger. I'm hoping it's just a trigger issue. I will report back, love this community, thanks for the info guys!

Agree with most, PGA professional can resolve your issue in about 45 minutes.....we are amateurs like yourself and even a pro would tell you, cannot resolve an issue such as this without looking at your swing and setup! Just released from PT to go to the range. Went once then went to my PGA instructor, knowing I needed tweaking. Have not played since December. Have been working on his recommendations. HItting the ball straight. It does work. Have another appointment with him next week.
