  1. I’ve been playing golf for about 15 years, and I’ve always been taught that your grip needs to be overlapping/interlocking. But recently, I’ve found that using a 10 finger grip (I like to call it a baseball style grip) has helped me hit shots more consistently. If I continue to use this grip, will I notice some downsides to it? Is it “wrong” to do it this way? Any advice would help! Thanks guys!

It works well for Scott Piercy. Moe Norman and Bob Estes used it for a while too. Go with what works for you and if over time, it causes other issues, adjust back.

I'm a big fan of the "whatever works for you" method. If you're playing better, I don't really see a downside to it.

I've tried all of them, only one that feels comfortable for me is interlock. My son uses the baseball grip and he won't change. Maybe I should try it, his swing is miles better than mine.

Same for me.Whatever grip works best for you is what you should use.

Baseball grip is more common than you think, if it works for you stay with it!

The baseball grip is fine...just don't use pine tar!
  7. I still interlock and I'm not sure it's best just couldn't imagine changing it because it would feel too weird.

    Go with what works better

Absolutely nothing wrong with the 10 finger grip- I have never been comfortable with the regular/Vardon overlap grip so in 1970 I went with the (no don't say it) reverse overlap grip and have had no issue with it either. Due to another issue I went with the 10 finger grip about 10 years ago and liked it- for a change this year I went back to the reverse overlay grip and it is working well- so as advised above go with works best for you, don't look back and don't question it!!

I switched to the 10 finger in my mid 20's after some wrist surgery. It works great, I love it and now its almost 25 years later. I have taught my 10 kids to play golf and all of them use the 10 finger. Ken Venturi once said if he had to start over again he would have used the 10 finger. Its a shame more don't consider it a viable option.

Go with whatever works for you and don't let anyone tell you different.

I hit definitely longer shots with the baseball grip but slice the ball. So thats the reason i use the overlap grip.

That is fascinating what Ken Venturi said about the 10 finger grip. TW said there were only two people who actually owned their swing....Moe Norman and Ben Hogan. The pros who have seen Moe's swing said he was by far the best ball striker they had ever seen.
  14. I first learned with the interlock grip then went to the overlap as I thought that would give me more power but I found that I used too much right hand and hooked a lot of shots. I've gone back to the interlock and gives me a lot more control. This has taken about 25-30 years from start to now.
Anyways, go with what feels good to you.. If you're comfortable and confident, you will hit better shots for sure!!

I say whatever works, go with it. I started playing as a teenager while on the baseball team. So, I went with 10 fingers because I was used to that feel with the baseball bat. After golfing with a cousin, he converted me to interlock and that stuck with me. Couldn’t imagine it any other way now. I recently watched a Michael Breed video about various grips. I have to admit that I was a little shocked to hear about other grips being popular. I guess I just never gave it much more thought after settling in with my grip.

it really is how the relationship of your fingers vs. the grip, if the baseball grip gives you a better swing, why would it be wrong ;)

I would like to go back to the 10 finger grip but why do I slice the ball than?

Use whatever works. There is not one way to play this great game.

I've been golfing for 30+ years that way. Tried both wasn't comfortable to me. Played baseball and softball to long. Took lessons from my Pro and that was the 1st thing he asked. He said no problem and we went to work from there.
Still break 80 on consistent basis.

Whatever feels natural and gets you the best results. That is why I went back to the interlock grip last summer. Good luck and good golfing.
