    Over the past year, Coore & Crenshaw has been working on opening the par-71 Sheep Ranch course at Bandon Dunes. Bandon Dunes announed it will be open to the public starting June 1, 2020. The course was originally designed by Tom Doak in 2001 and will feature nine greens along the ocean. Seems like a great addition to a world-class golf resort. Anyone else excited for this to open alongside Bandon Dunes, Bandon Trails, Old Macdonald, and Pacific Dunes?

    Giving a trip next year serious consideration... Be nice to see if it can take over PD as my favorite course up there!

    Bill Coore has said there will be no bunkers at the Sheep Ranch. I have played a number of his courses he has designed/built and there is a lot of strategy (risk/reward) involved. I'm guessing the SR will be no different.
    If that is a bunker from the picture above then I stand corrected.

    I believe you are right Jerry. There will probably be some sandy waste areas but no raked bunkers. I'll get a closer look when there in December. If we can't tour it I will at least see it from the north holes on Old Mac.

    I will be headed back to Bandon Dunes for our annual boys golf trip in December. It will be our 9th year in a row. Bandon never disappoints and we already have our tee times on the books for next years trip to play Sheep Ranch. So excited and can’t wait.

    Got to play 9 holes of the Sheep Ranch last Wednesday, all I can say is Amazing!!!

    This looks like it could be fast and firm.

    Is the primary defense of this course the wind?

    Jerry, if you have not been to Bandon, try to go. Yes, the Sheep Ranch, just like the original Bandon Dunes, Pacific Dunes, and Old Mac, are all course that rely on the wind to make you think and will have you playing some sort of adjusted shot. Being sand based, even on rainy days it plays firm and you can still use a lot of punch and run-up shots. Bandon Trails is a bit more traditional and has more holes that you have to play the ball in the air. Rare to get a day in Bandon when a little wind isn't an impact. Actually worse in the summer. Less wind in the winter but a cold rain will alter your play too. We always play it in the winter. Best rates and less crowded.
