I have been doing drills using the baseball style grip...anybody use this grip full time? What are your strengths and weaknesses using this style grip? Tinkering.

My wife started with the baseball grip basically because she was a softball player but eventually went with the interlocking grip. It was better for her short game, more control and consistency than the baseball grip.

I’ve tinkered on the range with this and found that I’ve a fade tendency and a much higher ball flight with 10 finger compared to a standard overlap. I seem to catch the ball higher on the face and present more loft at impact. Odd. Our range has the power tees so I know that this is a constant when moving between the two grips.

I use this grip all the time , don’t cover my thumb , but do interlocking fingers , for me personally I just find it more comfortable, tried traditional grips , but simply can’t hit the ball , think a lot of it just comes down to personal preference ‍♂️ Same with the swing , everyone swings slightly different, so who says you can’t grip different, all depends what works for each individual !
  5. Always interlocked my fingers it feels too odd to do anything else and I have long fingers so it probably wouldn't be recommended for me to use this.

When i started playing, as a kid who played baseball too, I started with the 10 finger grip. I dont believe theres anything wrong with it, theres probably some benefits and some disadvantages to it, but i occludent say for certain. One day I just switched to overlap mid round and never looked back.

For me, interlocking always felt too weak. Overlapping was always uncomfortable because each of my pinky fingers is bent inward at the distal knuckle by about 30 degrees (another story). I adopted a ten finger grip about 5 years ago when I first heard of and then studied everything I could about Moe Norman. Although I have lost about 3-5 yards (driver distance) with this grip, it allows me to easily change from a weakened grip for fades and slices to a stronger grip for draws and hooks to a neutral grip for straight shots. Some may advise against adjusting the grip for the various ball flights, but it works for me!
  8. I came to write pretty much the same comment as you.. getting that right hand though is easier with ten fingers for me.. I started when I broke my right pinky finger and stuck with it

I may be way off base Dr. K, but if a baseball grip is used, all five fingers of the right hand are on the shaft and more or less "engaged", as opposed to interlock or overlap where the pinky and in some cases the the third finger are dormant shall we say. Don't you think the right hand might take over, and you'll end up hooking the ball more often than not?
    Just a thought..........
  10. I've played ten finger for 55 years after an accident to my right hand. Took a while to get used to it but then it was second nature. For me, a one handicap, I felt that the ten finger grip had the club face closed a bit more. I weakened my left hand and it cured it right away. Wouldn't think of changing ......

I use the 10 finger grip all the time. Played baseball and softball for many years before I took up golf only. Just more comfortable for me.
Even took a few lessons from my local PGA pro to get better. He asked about it and I told him to many years of ball. He said no problem and went to work from there.
With the lessons I took got rid of the slice and started a nice baby draw. Always say I saved more in golf balls not lost for the price of the lessons.
Just get the grip down in the fingers not in the palm. Don't grip to tightly either. I consistently shoot around 80. Give or take a few. Good luck.

As Mark mentioned, getting the grip in the fingers not in the palm, is what really matters. If the grip you use feels right and you are hitting the ball well and scoring do it. Overlap, interlock, baseball. When my instructor finally bot me to move my shaft from the palm to the fingers, I really started striking the ball with control......

I understand that after "John Wick 3", Keanu Reeves has gone to the 9 finger grip.

My 10 finger grip experiment lasted about one range session.
I'll continue to rock the overlap...

I changed from overlap to interlock last summer and my control and distance has improved. I gave up gave up 26 years of softball to devote full time to golf and no baseball grip for me. With respect to all opinions and choices.
  16. Personal choice based upon your body's geometry and swing biomechanics. It would be interesting to know if those who use the 10-finger approach also utilize larger-than-standard golf grips on their clubs to lighten the pressure. As for me, the 10-finger swing induces huge pulls over the "left field wall." A modified overlap, (sort of like Patrick Reed style) works for my setup.
