For short game practice, I play 18 holes (par 36) on the putting green just chipping and putting. One ball . . . chip to tee off and putt it in. And I keep score . . . It's especially fun playing under pressure against someone. I mention this because this practice normalizes situations in an actual round of golf for me. I know this concept is nothing new, but gamifying practice has neutralized my tendency to be too scientific in practice and in play. I'm becoming much more athletic on the course now, and my scores are really showing a vast improvement. Perhaps this will help someone out there break through a scoring drought.

Sounds like a great way to practice. They always say practice with a purpose. I do something similar with just putting.

I get 3 balls of different numbers & keep score over 18 different holes on the practice green.

For chipping I throw 15 balls out in random spots, chip them onto the green & then count my 1 putts & 2 putts. this works both my chipping & putting skills. Then I'll move to another hole and repeat. this works short side green & longer chips at the same time.

Keep making working on your game fun & the scores will keep coming down.

  3. Agreed, competitive practice, either against yourself or an opponent, will definitely help you compete on the course.
