Does anyone have an estimate/ personal experience on distances for range balls vs a pro v1x or similar. I am trying to dial in distances on my clubs at the range and curious if it is a noticeable change when playing a better ball on the course. For example: when playing high altitude golf balls fly about 7% further.

I'd say that is a good estimate. I recommend getting a gapping session in. At the golf course by my house, they offer free gapping sessions! Very clutch!

Depends on quality and condition of the range balls. Some places I play have ProV1x's, some places have cally, some srxn, and others have balls that are so worn they hardly have dimples. Some range balls are actually limited-flight balls. There's no real certainty unless you know all the variables. I wouldn't get too caught up on distances over 100 yards with range balls for the most part, unless your club has quality, like new balls for the practice area. "Dialing-in" is best done on the golf course, where you're using your own ball in actual conditions. Arccos is a good system if you need help keeping track of that info.

When I go to the driving range, I just look at the ball flight and work on my swing: tempo. This is because range balls are simply unreliable. As for dialling in distances, I prefer to use an indoor golf simulator: TrackMan.

There are some ranges that have a restricted flight ball that will only fly a %. Its probably best to ask if your range is using those. Im not saying they are, just that its a possibility. I would say my advice would be to get out on the course in a time thats not too busy and hit a couple balls with your preferred ball to compare the distances.

If I am hitting my shots within a 5-10 yard range of my intended target I am good. I have a very good idea how far each club will go. When I am on the range I am working more on tempo, alignment, and accuracy. I hit on a public course and the balls are not consistent. I have a general idea of the range of my irons. At my level and age, hitting the ball within kick ins are shots that come with all those other dreams, when I am sound asleep. With respect. No worries.

    Getting Dialed in is challenging!!!
My son 13 is going through a ton of changes at the moment and golf is TOUGH!!!
The kid is sometimes 20 yards off on his yardages...all good shots but its crazy to see a great shot go too far.
On the other hand missing short has become an issue as well...taking a bit off the shot and coming up short because the last time you were long. Only solution for now is practice your Chipping and Putting like a Madman!!!

    Cheers,

Range balls are difficult to measure distances. Your better off getting Arccos or ShotScope to measure shots, and after 5, 10, or 20 rounds, you will have accurate data to see your distances.

You should note the distances your clubs produce while using the ball you play with. Standard range balls tend to spend a little more. As a poster said early if I’m 5-10 yards plus or minus in the range of my standard on course golf shot, I’m fine not going to worry.

Unless your range offers the exact ball you play with, your mainly guessing.

Next time you play make more notes of the clubs you hit at certain yardages and then if you hit that well or not. If you hit your 8 iron on a hole for example and it went 155 but you felt it was a little heavy note that as your 8 flushed probably is 160 or so. This way you will build your internal yardage inventory.

When I’m at the range practicing, I don’t get too caught up in the distance as there are a lot of factors to that. I mainly look at ball flight.
  10. I went to the PGA Superstore and spent an hour using my own balls and new Titleist T 300 irons on simulator. Went through all my irons and hybrids. I then wrote down all averages on good strikes and used that on a few rounds and it was fairly accurate only had to make about 5 yard changes here and there. Hope this helps.
