I have the previous version of the studio select newport 2. It is about 5-6 years old now. Do you think there has been enough change in technology to justify buying the new studio select putter?

Jeff if you are staying with a blade then no, but if you are considering a mallet then yes!

Jeff,
I think the only big difference you'll find is the deep milling on the face. The deep milling does provide a significant different sound and feel but I wouldn't consider one better than the other...just personal preference.

I have an older version on Newport 2.5, probably about 4-5 yrs old also. I think about getting newer version, but I love this putter and ask why? I get new woods and irons every couple of years and the upgrades have always helped, but putter? Not sure if it's the same. I've demo'ed new versions, and honestly can't see or more importantly FEEL any significant difference. So until the urge of getting a new putter just overwhelms me, think I'll just keep a good grip on my old reliable!

I have been using the same oil can newport 2 since 2000. I am not sure there is a difference in them unless you were to go to a mallet style putter. I have tried to change to see over the years and always go back to the oil can. It boils down to comfort and confidence a putter gives you.

Jeff , I agree with Mark C . If it ain't broke you know the rest. The putter (unless you get a hole in one) is the only club you use on every hole , sometimes twice. If you putt good stick with it. Now if you want it for a collection well that's another story. Good luck.

Hi Jeff,
You could always send your putter in to get refinished or customized to feel like a brand new one. I've seen some pics on here and they look awesome. Just an idea.

Jeff, in my experience, every Scotty putter is a work of putting art. There has not been a bad model ever made. Age has no bearing whatsoever with the quality of the putter. I have 5 going back 11 years. Whatever looks and feels good to you is the putter you should use. Good luck!

If it works, I would not mess with it. I still go back to my first Cameron from 2002 when my newer putters stop behaving.

You can always go to a showcase or shop and compare by testing a new putter vs your old one!
