  1. Hello all,

I picked up a Big Sur S awfully cheap. It’s in great condition, however it won’t work for me without getting cut down, and a new shaft put in. I’ve read plenty about never replacing original shaft and how it will throw off weight. Does anyone have experience with doing this with one of the long putters and how they turned out? Wondering if it’s worth the price to get new shaft put in or if I should take it to golf galaxy and trade on something else.

  2. I have experimented and it usually doesn’t work since the weighting of the year and shaft are designed to be long. You could try but I have not been able to make it work,

Try changing out the grip to an original style. This will help get the correct weight and feel. The oversize grips throw off the putter weight. Just cut the grip to your specs then replace the grip.

I recently purchased an older X5 Dual Balance at stock 38”. I had it cut down to 34.5” and had them keep the weight in the shaft. It definitely doesn’t feel like a dual balance anymore because I defeated the purpose of having a longer shaft and choking down. However, it still feels great and way more stable than my Newport.
