Long story short, I was in my friends uncle’s garage looking at his old clubs. He is a retired surgeon that was awful but just loved playing. He developer cancer and didn’t play anymore. I found a Scotty Cameron putter in his bag. Super rusted, no headcover and dirty. He had no idea what or who Scotty Cameron was. I offered to buy it and he ended up giving it to me.

I looked up how to get the initial rust off and did as good as I could. You can see it still has quite a bit of rust spots. I do plan on eventually getting it restored. My questions are the following:

How can I tell exactly which year this is, without or until I send it in the get certified? Archives show it could be 1995-97 from pics.

Does this look authentic to you all? If so, how rare is this one?

Any recommendations on if I should get it restored back to original specs because of it being rare? I didn’t want to add sight lines or anything to devalue it.

Thanks for the input and whatever other comments you all have.

I would lightly clean it up and put it in the bag
  3. Great find and awesome story! Two schools of thought on this. Some would take a light brush to it, oil it and play it as is...in rust we trust! The other side of it is to get it fully restored. Gets pricey but so many options in metal or color and can stamp, shaft, and grip to any color under the sun. That’s the route I would go, but a really good model there, timeless and hold value. Check out Scotty Cameron’s website as well as you can interactive the custom shop to get a visual and idea of price.

maybe try dipping the head in Coke might take off the rust just a thought then oil it up

Thank you Gentlemen. I might throw it in the bag until I get it fully restored.

So do I get throw some oil on the face and use a not too harsh brush on the face? I don’t want to mess it up (assuming I can any worse than it already is being rusty)

It looks like an oil can newport - 1998-99. I have one. They are old, but, I don't think they were very rare. If you are wondering about the value, you could check ebay.

Yours looks to be in good shape, except for the rust.
