Simulators vs Range

  1. I just found a great little bar/ simulator bays spot on Orange, CT. It was called Golf Lounge 18 and took my wife and daughter there to drive iron chip and putt for an hour (they saw how much my 6 year old was having and let us stay longer). It is an amazing business idea that I hope grows, and actually went to Dr Greens and 5 Iron with Team Titleist in the past...but I digress. I noticed that my irons and driver go much less distance in the simulator than in the range or course. Could be my swing is rusty in the winter, and afraid to hit something in the bay or even just mental...but wondered if any of you fellow TTers notice a disparity between simulator and actuality?

One of the reasons I prefer getting fitted on a range. Accuracy! and I like seeing where the fall is going. Do not practice in hitting bays or simulators........

Hitting balls on the ranges is always better than simulators

I hear ya man, sometimes ya wonder if those things are accurate at all. I get crazy spin with irons when i visit our simulator around here. I dont let it impact me and worry too much, jus happy to get the swings in during winter. I do know one thing about simulators, the truth can be humbling for us all. Gotta take everything with a grain of salt.

Not all simulators are the same but at least your swinging.
Working on fundamentals technique drills in simulators is ok just know ball flight could not be correct you may actually be slicing or hooking and the simulator shows it right down the middle.

I use the simulator a lot during the winter and to me it's just video game golf. I do not take the results seriously. If anything, it gives me a chance to stay loose during the winter. It's video game golf and a good excuse to get outta the house and have a few brews with the boys.

Like Speedy said, it's a great way to stay loose and keep your swing reasonably intact through the winter and have a brew (if you so desire). Don't sweat the distance, once you get out in the spring it'll return.

I'm with you Josh. I find that my ball carries less in the simulator. If weather permits, I think the range is always better. While the simulator is fun, like Speedy said, it's video game golf. It's a good way to stay loose and social.

The range is always best for fitting. Simulators are a fun to do. I'm told that Trackman is the same indoors or outside, although I've only been on Trackman outdoors.

It is great to get some swings in but nothing beats the fresh air and green (or maybe dormant) grass!!
  11. Ooo this makes me so happy I've been getting a little obsessed if I'm honest with a local topgolf range.

This is very refreshing to know other people are getting unreliable ball info with simulators.

The whole keeping the swing loose I totally get and any excuse to golf is a good one

    Thanks guys

Boy you guys are all saying the same as me. Living in New England like Speedy, we have to do the indoor thing when we get that cold and white crap all winter long. But I also agree with Chuck. I've always preferred getting fit and or working things out on the range rather than a simulator. I want to see the ball flight and the entire ball flight, seeing the height, the full curve, hang time you name it. I feel it gives me a better idea of what I'm doing right or wrong.

    Range, all the way.
