    What is the best shot you have ever hit ??

    One time I was 170 yards out on 18 at the Golf Club of Houston. It was a few weeks before the Houston Open, all the grandstands were up, and we had a pretty big money game going with my buddies and I was the only one on the fairway. I was also the worst golf in the group and was getting a stroke, so I figured I could rip a 9 and be on the backside of the green worst-case.

    My buddies are behind me when I flush one right on line with the flag. My partner yells out "be the number!" About 10 minutes later, my ball hit the roof of the grandstand which is a good 3-4 stories high and 30-40 paces behind the green.

    Horrible shot in terms of golf but my friends always share the story like it's paul bunyan folklore; which shamefully makes it my favorite shot.

    A 5 iron to 6ft on 18th hole Old Course at St Andrews.........24yrs ago. Usually quite a busy spot with tourists but when I hit my shot the only witness was a Traffic Warden.

    You would expect it to be one of the three hole-in-ones but it was actually a drive. I had just hit the 150 yard pole on Hole 15 at our home course and the ball ricocheted off into the bunker. I stood up on the 16th tee and said, "watch me hit the pole again" and sure enough, hit a high, straight drive down the middle that hit the top of the 150 yard pole. 4 inch PVC pipe and we almost never found where the ball ricocheted off to that time. It was near the fence 20 yards to the right with no shot at the green. Lucky shots for sure but pretty cool that I called the second one.

    That 3-inch tree branch to the right of the fairway is my favorite target.

    160 yards or so out in a high-faced fairway bunker. Needed a higher lofted club to clear the lip, but wouldn't make it to the green if I went that route. Green was up a hill and over a ridge, so it was totally out of view from my position in the bunker. So I walked to the highest point of the ridge, found a target tree behind the pin which I'd be able to see the top of from the bunker. Went back to the bunker, pulled a 6 iron, choked down a little and put my head behind the ball with a slight lean back to give me a better shot to clear the lip. I took a full, but easy-tempo swing. No jump at it, just smooth as silk. Hit it sweet. Cleared the lip and was headed right for my target tree. Got up to the ridge and looked for my ball on the green. It wasn't there. I knew I'd hit it well so assumed rolled off the back somewhere. Looked all over behind the green and to the left and right of it. Finally looked in the hole. Yep, there it was! Eagle two, from a steep-faced fairway bunker to a totally blind pin. Will never forget that one.

    My hole in one a while back. 171 yards, six iron. Went in on the fly, so clean didn't hurt the hole.

    This was in my early days of golfing so it may or may not be that good. In a fourball, my partner hit it out of bound on his 2nd. I thought I had it but we couldn't find my ball after landing on the fairway- imagine that. I had to re-tee and my next tee shot flew a long way but off of the left rough on a side hill lie. On my fourth from that side hill (about 135), it took one hop and went in for a 4 and good enough for a tie... so fun :-)

    Playing in a two-man best ball with my father-in-law. We were on the par 4 18th at our home course. I hit a terrible drive (worm burner) and was 235 out with a water carry to the green. My father-in-law was sitting about 150 out and told me he was in great shape and that I should just go after it hard with a hybrid (love my Titleist clubs). I gave it my all and put it inside of 3 feet below the hole. My father-in-law proceed to chunk his approach into the lake! We walked away with a birdie. Don’t remember how we finished the tournament but I think about that shot every time I play #18.

    That is a tough one at my age? Have eagled out of a greenside bunker on a par five and had three holes in one. Even though both shots were tough, guess I have to go with the hole in one category. Only need one more to have one on each of the par threes on our course.......#14 is avoiding my pitching wedge....... =(

    Some guys might feel the best shot is that first tee shot of the day that hits the middle of the fairway and that would be a good choice.... =)

    That's a tough one, especially if you've been playing a long time. My 3 holes in one not withstanding, one of my best shots was last year.

    3rd shot par 5, 75 yards out. The ball is right on the edge of woodlands. Not only is my swing restricted by a bush, the green is elevated from the angle I'm coming from, and there's a large tree up near the green. I don't have to go over the middle of it, but I do have to go over branches on the right side of the tree.

    I take a practice swing and realize I'm going to hit the bush on the backswing and the down swing.Really tough spot to be in. I didn't give myself much hope of hitting the green, let alone making contact. So here goes; I get over the ball hit the bush on the backswing and again on the downswing, make solid contact with the ball, miss the tree branches and land it on the green, about 30 feet beyond the pin.

    I miss the birdie, but make my par.....All my opponent said was WOW!

    Well I'm going to go with the only hole in one I've ever had. Par 3, 115yds, 9 iron. Best shot in 60ish years of playing.

    170 yrs out on the 15th at my home course. Big pond in front of the green. The front of the green is bulk headed. About a 20mph wind head on. #3 hybrid. The shot skimmed off the pond, over the bulkhead, and rolled to the back of the green. Hit the pin and dropped in for my 1st eagle! Lucky to say the least!

    My folklore one like much like Allan, was high school tournament. Final hole, and I was playing #5 on the team. My partner was already out of the match and we get to the last hole which was a par 3 near the clubhouse. My team mates, #1, 2, 3, & 4 meet me on the tee to ask where my match was. All square I told them, to which they told me that it was all on me. The whole match was square. Nerves. Naw! I hit my 7 iron right toward the clubhouse. It hit the roof of the clubhouse and bounced down onto the green. My opponent flew the green and was about 10 feet off the back and chipped up to about 6 feet. My 20 foot put had to go over a portion of the green that was in pretty bad shape, ball marks, gouges in the green you name it. I asked for abnormal ground condition relief and was told the the other coach to play the ball as it lies. Hit the putt which bounced and Plinko'ed up and down along the green and right into the hole for birdie and match. The bus was late picking up up but 40 minutes later that coach was still bemoaning in the clubhouse. I was to toast of our team all of whom couldn't stop laughing.

    Mine was playing the hardest hole at Mid Herts where I was a member. The hole is a long par 4 that dog-legs to the right with trees on the right and the green surrounded by bunkers and gauze bushes behind.

    I fumbled a tee shot about 200 and was greeted by a senior who called me through who took great pride in asking me how it felt to be out driven by a senior, we both had a giggle!

    Whilst he stood next to me and the rest of his 3 ball watched, I took out my TS3 4 wood to attempt to reach the green 260yds away which wasn't in view. I hit a draw perfect to the shape of the hole which landed on the green and rolled up to 4ft of the cup allowing me to walk away with birdie.

    The seniors looked at me in astonishment, I thanked them for letting me play through and walked to my ball feeling like a pro.

    I will go with "favorite" shot - when I was 12-13yo I would get dropped off in the morning to go play. I would be that "single" that would join up with the "men" I was usually met with a glare or scoff, that I had somehow ruined their day by getting paired up with "some kid" they would barely make eye contact, passively shake my hand, total cold shoulder. I would let them all hit first and when it was my turn I would bomb it past all of them. Before I could put my club back in my bag I was met with "what was your name again? Where grade are you in? Are you from around here?" Etc. I always got a kick out of it "oh sure now you want to give me the time of day" lol - happened all the time, helped me in tournament situations too, i loved how i knew it was about to happen and i was about to change their opinion/mood real quick.

    No Aces yet, but I've had four double-eagles. The most exciting of them was on No. 4 playing Pinehurst #2 about 1990 when No. 4 was a par 5. 3 wood to the green, hit a little short, rolled up onto the green and trickled in.

    I was 129yds out uphill to the green & holed out for an eagle with a 9 iron. When I got to the green I thought maybe I went over so we looked behind the green & even outside the cable thinking maybe it was OB. One of the guys playing with us seen the ball mark in front of the pin about 4 ft so he looked in the hole & found the ball.

    My best shot ever would have to be the triple breaking 50 ft putt to make the varsity golf team my sophomore year of high school or the 385 yard drive that was only 300 yards off the tee but hit the square yardage marker that was only 1ft by 1ft square that cause the ball to bounce up and fly 85 more yards on to the green and was 3 ft from the hole
