Hey everyone, hope this message finds you and your families well! Since my local driving ranges/courses are now closed for the foreseeable future, I’m losing my mind and sanity. Especially after a long winter here in NY not hitting balls. As a high school teacher, it’s incredibly challenging to try to provide distance learning for my students as well as keeping my own young kids occupied and engaged. As the weather starts to get warmer, I’m looking for some at home solutions for just getting outside in my backyard to hit some golf balls with my son. I need to find some ways to take breaks from it all. So, Im looking into buying a large hitting net, where I can also hit some drivers, and a hitting mat with a slot for a tee. Can anyone recommend something they are using? Is there something I should stay away from? I’m looking at something kind of middle of the road price wise as I plan on just leaving it outside and not moving it. Currently looking at the izzo giant hitting net and haven’t found a mat yet. Thanks everyone! Please stay safe everyone! P.s-never been more motivated to meet up and play golf with some fellow Team Titleist members when this all passes!

  2. Cant go wrong with just keeping on top of your short game.

most of the shots hit in a round are chipping and putting. on average even the top player miss a few greens in a round and your looking at a couple of puts per hole too.

Have fun with your son and do some putting comps indoors and a chipping comp out back.

we are lucky and or stupid that courses are open for business in Scotland but cant see it staying the same for long.

    hope everyone keeps well.

Michael, my family and I have a trip planned to Scotland for next summer 2021. We plan on going to the Scottish Open, then the 150th (hopefully) Open Championship at St. Andrews. I’ve never been over the pond as they say and it will be a dream come true for me. I am definitely bringing my clubs with me. Just starting to do some research on the courses I must play when I’m over there. We are planning on staying for about three weeks so plenty of time to hit the links.

Have been stuck at home since the first week of February so staying home for this virus is a piece of cake. Swinging a club is the last thing on my mind. Met with my Dr this morning and even though the report on my back surgery was very positive no golf yet. Start physical therapy starts tomorrow morning and will do that twice a week for the next six weeks. This brace comes off in two weeks and that is welcome news. In six weeks I can start putting, then move on the chipping with a goal of full swings by June. They are talking maybe having me on the course by July. The PT will involve strengthening my core. Am excited about PT because it has been a long six weeks. Am running two miles a week. When I return to this game my physical condition will be the best it has been in since I started playing in 1985. Just have a desire to go out in the yard and swing that nine iron but refrain from the temptation on these 75* days. Yeah, spring is tomorrow, but we have had a mild winter in Mt Pleasant, which is PAR FOR THE COURSE. What better time to have back surgery, our course is having a total renovation and the back nine is scheduled to open in July. So glad I do not have an inhouse swing aide. Temptation is not a good thing.....cheers

I am glad to hear that your recovery is going well Chuck, the PT will be a piece of cake.

Chuck, I had spinal fusion surgery on my back (L4-L5) back in 2014. I know what it’s like to be forced away from the game we love for a long period of time. I also know what the very difficult recovery and physical therapy is like. I can relate to the temptation to want to pick up that 9 iron and take a couple practice swings. It’s hard, but we do it for the greater good in the long run. It took close to two years to fully recover. But I have been back for a couple years now and playing some of the best golf of my life, pain free. Sure, I have good days and bad, but it has given me a new appreciation for just being out there. Don’t really get mad or frustrated at the bad shots anymore. Seems like you are coming along nicely. Just keep listening to the docs and take it easy. You’ll be back out there soon enough. With regards, David

I have the Rukket SPDR and it’s been great. It also comes with some side protection To catch and shanks. And let’s face it. They happen.

I bought this Skilz net on clearance at Dick's Sporting Goods for about $100.

I also bought a used driving range mat from Rawhide.

    rawhidegolfball.com/.../

Both products have exceeded my expectation and have allowed me to swing in my garage all winter long. I don't know if it will help my game but it is a great stress reliever.

I’ve put a putting mat in my home office to use between calls. And I’ve been hitting chip shots out in the yard.
