and now that's all I want to do when I play.

Walked 18 yesterday, carried my bag. I was tired as could be after, but boy does walking force you to take in the nature of the golf course. I want to buy a push cart and walk from now on. I've never seen people walking at the courses i normally play, only people riding. Any advice for walking when everyone around you is riding?

Walk and keep pace with your group......buy a clicgear, they are the best, lightweight and fold up nicely to fit in your trunk.....enough advice for today....with respect....cheers

You may start something at your course, Bentron. Enjoy.
  4. Bentron,
Much better for your general health to walk the course. Many smart phones also count your steps so you can actually record the benefits. My group of geriatrics walk most of the time - we get buggies when we go abroad as some of the resort courses in Europe have vast distances between greens and tees... and it's hot!
Also, beware of lumpy terrain - Played the Montgomery at Celtic Manor. Asked in the Pro shop if it was an OK walk and he said it was a stroll. He was obviously a better player than us and considerably younger. We were staggering by the time we finished as there were some particularly steep areas at the top of the mountain!!
    Enjoy your walk.

  5. Look into a Sunday bag...changed my world. I have a bag boy 4 wheel push but can be very tough going up steep hills with and found a Sunday carry bag (sold on Titleist or Scotty Cameron websites) kept my energy up much better than a push cart.

I often walk but try to avoid being the only walker in a group of riders. If you can’t avoid it, at least tell them you plan to move up opposite their spot before they hit, just to keep up. You can avoid getting in the way but still move part of the way ahead so they are not waiting on you all the time. Also, lighten the load. I walk with only 12 clubs, the Players 4 bag, and usually only 6 golf balls. Have fun out there.

I use my Clicgear 3.5 whenever I can. But I have some players that will throw a little tiff about someone walking claiming it slows the group down. I think it's more the people in the group who go help others find their ball, then wait for them to hit, then go to their partners ball, then to theirs. When I walk I walk straight to my ball every time and am ready to hit once I arrive there and have yet to play a 4.5 hour round as a 4some with 3 riders. Most of the time we come in under 4 hours.

But I love the view better & health factor of walking. I also play much more focused & relaxed by walking. Never feel rushed like I do in a cart.

    Keep enjoying the walking Bentron

I think walking is the best way to enjoy the game. Its really just a more peaceful way and has so many other benefits to your health and your game. There are times and places that a cart is required but i prefer to walk.

Good stuff! Playing golf and walking is very satisfying. It's even more fun if everyone is walking in the group. I sometimes walk alone in the group while the other three rides. It is difficult to walk while everyone rides- it's not easy for me to catch up in a fast pace. My game suffers when I rush or out of breath and not focussed playing a shot, so I keep a sensible pace that targets about a 4 hours and 20 minutes or less in a round and it sometimes ends up less than four hours with the riders. Jack Nicklaus mentions a little something about pace of play that's really important and you might want to look that up.

Clicgear push carts are great, but there are lighter ones out there that are easier to lug around. Battery powered carts are great, too.

walking golf is therapeutic. Its also a great cardio workout, without actually feeling like youre workin' out lol which can be dreadful. a typical 6500 - 7000 yard course could equate to 4-6miles on average.

it also depends how straight the cart riders hit them lol. If theyre hackin around, you would prob be ready to hit before them.

I generally walk. The exception are the neighborhood development courses. When the distance from green to tee gets to be hundreds of yards, you can really slow down riders. On course, I can generally walk as fast as the group in front of us plays, so my riders aren't at a disadvantage. I just need to keep to the 3 minute rule on wayward shots.

I enjoy bringing my camera along to do some course photography and try to snap a few photos along the way. Walking is great for this because I only have to stop for a moment to grab the pic I want and keep moving. I like to throw my bag on the cart and my playing partner will drive the cart and I can walk freely. My course is so hilly that it’s absolutely exhausting to try and walk and carry or push your bag. It’s bad enough walking up and down the hills without a bag.

I would agree with Chuck Z on the push cart. Also when you're on the tee or in the fairway and you are walking, take off immediately when the last person hits. Don't worry about their ball, just try to keep up and be ready when it is your turn. When approaching the green, study it for slopes in relation to your ball. My thinking is that if they are average golfers I can usually keep up with them. If they are single digits, I may have a problem and just let them proceed onward.

I walk about half the time, generally in the cooler months, May-September in GA is just too hot and humid to walk. I remember once going to my doctor, which of course they ask about exercise and I said something about playing golf. His response was "that's not exercise."

My response, "Go to the grocery store, load up your cart, then walk it home. Then I'll tell you that's not exercise."

I walk and carry as often as I can (90-95%). I have used a Titleist stand bag for years, but like Josh above, I recently converted to a "Sunday" bag. The TT Sunday bag was a gift at the Pinehurst short game event last year, and until recently had been collecting dust in the basement. But a couple of weekends ago (soon after turning 52) after walking and carrying on Friday & Saturday, I tried it the following day and what a difference! Plenty of room and noticeably lighter than the stand bag.

Just got the email about this new bag- I'm sure you got yours, too- pretty exciting for walkers.

I'm 77 and carry my Titleist 2.1 lb "Sunday" bag for every round - that being said, I play 18 holes, from the gold tees, and carry 8 or sometimes 9 clubs, but, rarely 14. I play twice a week, weather permitting, never on the weekend and always play in four hours or less. Most of my playing partners ride. It's a great workout, even if my golf doesn't cooperate. I highly recommend giving it a try.

If you don’t have one, buy a lightweight carry bag and only take the essentials. Surprising how heavy a few beers can get in your bag .

Have been looking at clic gear carts, they must be amazing because they are completely sold out of inventory on their website. Will wait till they are back in stock and pick one up. I rode at one of the busier courses yesterday, based off that i figure i can keep pace of play up with a push cart so looking forward to getting a Clic Gear.
