I once met Alice Cooper the ledgendary rocker on a golf course. What in your opinion is the oddest encounter you have had while out on the links.

  2. My dad tells me all the time how he was playing and someone smashed a drive that went into his fairway. They met up and it turned out to be LT (Lawrence Taylor). Being the Redskins fans we are it was bittersweet but cool none the less.

Had to be 1994. We were playing a little known daily-fee course on the west side of Fort Worth. It was called Lost Creek and is gone now, permanently closed in 2018. On about the 3rd or 4th hole we noticed a couple of tall guys playing in the group behind us. I thought one looked familiar. At the end of the round a watched him get into a new Mercedes parked by me in the parking lot. It was the newly signed point guard for the Dallas Mavericks, Jason Kidd. I have no idea how he even found this course? You would expect he could play at the best courses Dallas had to offer. Then again, from the looks of how he was playing, he probably wanted to find a place where he would not be recognized.

Ran into Penny Hardaway at Tunica National Golf Course, Tunica, MS, who played round ball at Memphis State University (Tigers), then NBA (Magic, Suns, Knicks, and Heat) and presently head coach for the University of Memphis Tigers. We were practicing on the greens when he drove up in his Bentley and he and his group came out to the green to practice. I was with my brother in law and who graduated from MSU and he spoke to him. May not have been odd but interesting encounter to meet a four time all star who grew up playing basketball in Memphis. My wife also was a grad of MSU.

No celebrities, but I have seen someone in a neighboring house sun tanning topless, she was old enough to be my grandma at the time.
It was the oddest "encounter" I have ever had.

Alice Cooper actually played a course right near my home. He played nine holes before flying out of Logan airport. I caddied in his group.I had the head professional.

Not sure if this is odd but it was a bit startling. My wife and I were pushing our carts walking a late-play 18 one summer evening and finishing up around 7:30. On the final hole she and I both hit our drives a bit left off-line and while walking over that way we encountered a family of skunks meandering around about 10 feet from our balls. We stopped, discussed the situation, and sacrificed our golf balls to them. I'm sure the next morning somebody found a Pro V1 and wondered how a nice Titleist got lost in plain sight.

Being originally from NYC, I've run into quite a few celebs on the golf course such as Meatloaf, Sgt. Slaughter, the wrestler, Phil Esposito, several actors including Joe Pesci, the late, great, Arthur Ashe ( A real gentleman ). I once got to play with Mike Mayock, the GM of the Oakland Raiders. This was in the late 1980's. Mike went to Boston College with my then next door neighbor and steady Sat. playing partner. Mike had just retired from playing with the N.Y Giants a couple of years before and stopped by to see my neighbor and invited him to play with us. Mike was a great guy and we had a lot of laughs that day.
