Someone told me golf is like hiking with a purpose and always thought that was apt. I enjoy it because you can root for someone else while still challenging yourself. I love the history and the etiquette that is involved. Mostly though, I love that your focus is on the next shot and not on stresses of life...such a great escape.

I love the fact that it’s a game that I not only play against my mates I also play against the course and more importantly the toughest of all against myself. There’s nothing like it.

Although I’m not sure who wins most when it’s me versus me. .......oh no wait it’s me.

But to be fair there are times when I dislike this frustrating game. ️‍♂️ But always return full of optimism.

It's a game that can't be mastered but you are able to enjoy the frustration with close friends.

Puts me outside in touch with mother nature. One game I cannot defeat, no matter how hard I try. I can play as a group or alone. A game where that one shot can keep me always coming back. I always remember that it is a game and the object is to have fun. And like LOVE it is a four letter word also. With respect to this wonderful and crazy game we all love and dislike at times, but always come back to the following day or week. Cheers.

Outside, with friends, striving to constantly get better at a game that is all on you. No one else to blow the layup shot, fumble the ball, strike out, etc. only you. And like "Bagger" said, ",,,,,,it's a game that can only be played, not won". 50 years and still going, loving every second

For me its a challenge to test my skill, out in the fresh air and away from the daily Rat Race I experience here in NY. Takes me away from all issues....

The greatest love-hate relationship in the world. Today I bogeyed the first 8 holes on the back nine on our Wanamaker Course but pared 18, the toughest finishing hole of our 3 courses. Love is in the air again. What a game!

Competitive, challenging, peaceful,serene..........and just plain fun!

So many reasons, exercise, fresh air, beautiful scenery, and the challenge. I was a good athlete, played many sports well but never good enough to be a pro. In golf, just for a moment when you hit the pure shot, you know no one in the world could have hit it better. It is the search for more of those that gets into the blood.

I like the fact that I can hate it today but love it tomorrow..

I love golf because it's a non-contact sport.
You can build a game and fit it within your own physical strength and make it your own unique self quality talent (or at least keep the ball in play- that would be me) I love that journey.
I love golf because it is played outdoors in a natural habitat and daily climate.
It can be tree lined or links with penalty areas or in elements like mixed in a rain or under the sun and wind or all in together, I have loved them all.
I also love golf as I have met many good friends who also love golf like I do.
Either in my regular group or golf within work. I am thankful for all of it.

The challenge of always trying to beat the course & not yourself. That is what drives me to play this game. it doesn't matter if I'm in a tournament or a foursome for fun or playing a round by myself. It's the same intense motivation on every single round I play to try and beat whatever course I am playing at the time...then there is the beautiful surrounds that comes with being on the course.

I think because it is a microcosm of life. You never master it but just try your best to be better, learn from your mistakes, and take what it gives you. It’s not always fair and sometimes gives you good breaks and bad breaks. You can choose to dwell on the negatives or delight in the positives and you never know what might happen ahead.

The Challenge..you against the golf course..18 chances all sometimes with 18 different outcomes..plus the beauty of the lay out takes your breath away..

To me golf is my alone time and social time. Golf is very much an individual sport that you can play with friends. This allows us to be in our own bubble, but then interact with other as we please. Golf is also one of the only sports that changes every day. Different courses, different tees, different pin placements, and different weather. So we always keep coming back for more.

Golf is the one thing that can make you crazy but can also keep you sane. Whether playing alone to clear my head of life's worries or with others to enjoy some friendly competition, it is what you want it to be. To be able to be outside feeling the breeze, listening to the birds sing and admiring God's great creation always brings a little peace. Even though at times you want to give up there is always that one hole or even just a shot where you go "ahh that's it". There is always the next round.
