I have revived my passion for golf recently and am playing a whole lot more and working to get back to my handicap in my younger days. I have realized after reading “Golf is not a game of perfect,” by Bob Rotella, how some basic changes can bring big results. A few pointers from Harvey Penick’s Little Red Book also contributed to some recent improvements, like “Take Dead Aim.”

What are some of the books or tips that have led to improving your game on the psychological side of the game?

Mastering Golf's Mental Game: Your Ultimate Guide to Better On-Course Performance and Lower Scores by M. Lardon is pretty good!
  3. Forget your last shot, nothing to do but focus on the next. This has helped me this year as I have struggled with my irons. My better focus with my wedges has helped me save a lot of pars.
  4. I bought and watch the Phil Mickelson shoe game dvd every year to reboot the ole short game...works well and is relatable

I haven’t read any books on this myself but I love a whole collection of golf quotes. One of my favorites is “The mind messes up more shots than the body.” - Tommy Bolt

Being mentally tough on the golf course and remembering to stay positive has been one of the biggest factors toward my success and ability to bring my handicap down to the lowest it’s ever been (6).

The Pro at our course says that Golf is 75% a mental game ............... the other 25% .....it's just all in your head!

The point he tries to make is that there is a big difference between a golf swing (practice, training etc.) and a golf shot (on course, playing a round). Makes sense to me in any case - fewer swing thoughts on the course!
  7. I know a lot of people say it. But just having confidence and only looking at the good things that can happen i.e. picturing hitting the fairway or seeing how big it is vs saying “there is a lot of water” lol

Bob Botella also wrote 'Golf is a Game of Confidence'. I listened to the audiobook on the way home after a terrible round of golf.

The book resonates with my experience with the game of golf. The best way to understand what is confidence in golf is to reflect on previous experiences. In my opinion, confidence is built with expertise.

"The psychological side of the game is about confidence". That's what my dad who was a consummate and avid club golfer always said.

If you ask me, I 'switch off' and I simply stick to my routine: pre and post every shot, follow basic breathing techniques to relax and try to visualize my shot.

The only book that has helped me with my game is Ben Hogan's Five Lessons; it is simply exquisite.
