This is my son Jax he is 8 and started playing shortly after I did back in June. No matter how cold he wants to go so today in the low 40’s we knocked out 9 holes. Love sharing this sport with my best buddy

Way to go!! I started my son at about age 3. He’s now 28 and plays to a +1. He is now a full-fledged member of my club and we play at least twice a week. I feel blessed. My advice, if possible, lose the golf cart and walk the course with your boy. It’s a perfect way to unplug and connect to each other. My son and I walked 36 yesterday, and although I didn’t play well, it was one of my best days on the course.

Great bonding experience that can last a lifetime. This is something the 2 of you can do together for decades.

Of my many regrets, not taking up golf until years after my boys left home home is one.

  4. TPropst,

An awesome gift to your son, getting him started in this wonderful sport! Enjoy!
  5. I know the feeling. My daughter is 7 and has the bug too. This morning was a little different though. She went out to walk the dog around the block with me on a 30 degree day. She looked up and said, “I really hope you don’t feel like golfing today Dad...”. :)

Yeaaah! So cool to see the youngsters playing the game so often. I wish I would have started my addiction at that age.

Awesome. My boys are 26 and 24, we still play together weekly and have a great time (usually). Started when they were about 8 and 10....yes, there were difficult times which led to going out with them 1:1. Eventually, their mental attitude improved - we all learn great lessons from the game of golf. Really really good times shared together. Enjoy this time.

Great post. Glad you're having fun with your son on the course. I started playing years ago, but my oldest started at about 4. He's 12 now and we play every week, he always asks when our next tee time is.

To what John said above, walk if you can. We walk about half the year, it's just too hot in the summer here in GA. Gives us both a chance to truly unplug. If we're one of the first groups out, we're usually done in well under 3 hours.

Great picture. I have a pic of my son swinging a cut down club at age 3. He's 37 now, and a better player than the old man!!

Enjoy every moment... I have 3 sons and like you I started them young around your son's age. I let them tee up from the 150s or from where my drive ended up. Let him hit some old balls into a pond for fun - they like that. Also played some scramble holes with them. Two went on to play college golf and the other still plays.

But here is the best part - we only have two clubs (a hybrid and a putter) out of all four of our bags that are not Titleist and we all play Pro Vs!!!

That's the way to start'em young. Looks like me years ago with my father. Congrats!
