Is there anyone on here that can explain the playing conditions correction (PCC) on the new handicap system? Mainly when and how is the decision made to give or take strokes. I had a stroke taken off a few months ago but don't remember what the weather was like that day. Since then, I have played a round at Crystal Lake in RI while visiting family in October where it was raining and 45* with no correction. Then last week I played at Cedarbrook in Elkin, NC near my home and there was a steady 15-20 mph wind blowing. No correction then either. I guess my question is who makes this decision and what does the weather have to be like before they adjust your score. Just curious. My handicap is so bad that I can use all the help I can get LOL. Thanks for the help.

The PCC correction is made automatically by the handicap system. If it "sees" a significant number of score that seem to be much higher than expected on a given day, it makes the adjustment. If I remember correctly, it uses the differential as that can be correlated to the index of the player posting the score. If the scores are much better then normal, it reduces the effective differential for that round.

All that being said, I have never seen a PCC adjustment to any scores this year. I have played in some horrible conditions where scores were all much higher then normal and none of us saw a PCC correction.

From what I understand the PCC is a course handicap assigned to that day by using the collective scores of the golfers that day. So for example if a course your playing has 30+ mph win and everyone shoots 9+ then the handicap for that day would be adjusted.

unfortunately I doubt this would affect the weekend golfer as many golfers do not post or have handicaps.

Can it be manipulated to lower my scores?
