  1. Hey,

I noticed on Titleist's website a fantastic study / article about the balance in Tradition and Technology. It's a very detailed study with lots of research into the history of the sport as well as the performance components of scoring.

Effectively, it discusses the 'distance' debate caused over the last few years, mostly sparked by Bryson.

Definitely worth a read, here is the link.

Cool article, although the distance debate has been going on much longer than recently. Its a tale as old as time and its not going anywhere.

Great article! As a former Superintendent I’m glad to see the recognition of the advances in Turfgrass to the importance in the evolution of the game. Let’s all hope Titleist remains the tip of the spear in whatever the future holds!

Interesting article but let me say this. To the younger folks who started playing golf in the last 10 or so years, trust me, you would not want to play with the equipment that I had the first played in the 1960's. And to my contemporaries, would you want to, as they used to say on The Lone Ranger, " Return to those thrilling days of yesteryear "? I don't think so. Like it or not, agree or disagree, the evolution of technology is a part of life and not just in golf. If you refuse to accept it in golf then you're "2 down" before you get to the 1st tee.

So many factors going into the increase in distance in the game today. The genie is not going back into the bottle. The ball is an easy scapegoat. Still there are a couple of easy fixes in the wings. Shorten courses, make driving distance less important. How many courses with back tees at 7200+ yds., have had to remove those tee markers to keep lesser skilled players from playing that yardage and slowing the course down? Mow fairways at 5/8in slow them down at least on tour. 1/4 fairways that are dry and rolled add a lot of distance. Keep greens at your club no faster than 10. Courses that feel the need to have greens faster than 10 for bragging rights only slow pace of play and make the supers life miserable.
