The TPC Sawgrass is one of those courses that requires a player to be creative with their shots and not a course that can be overpowered; this is magnified when the weather becomes part of the narrative.

As a golf fan watching the best players in the world getting brutalized because of bad weather, for me, it's not as fun to watch.

The conditions reminded me of playing in high school in PA. Our season was in the Fall, so the latter part of the season was often played in 30-40 degree weather with wind and sometimes snow. As the announcers made clear, golf is a sport played outdoors.
IMO, the best in the world should always be tested with penal rough, tight fairways and lightening greens. If there is also not optimal weather well, so be it.

Saturday was BRUTAL! I think they should have canceled Saturday given weather, IMO. Sunday was much more calm and think it would have been a more level playing field for all.

Loved the mixed bag of climate.. The cream rose to the top! Had to feel bad about Casey's ball on 16, handled it well!

The field is level when they all play under he same conditions. Is this why the foreign players play better in these kinds of conditions? Just sayin'. Wind is definitely a tough condition, but one a pro should be able to contend with and as Todd says, the cream rises. With respect.

I guess it is the luck of the draw. The early/late draw never had to deal with the severe winds. Some of the late/early draw had to play 17 twice during the most difficult conditions. Through the course of the year, I would think things would even out. Part of what makes this game so interesting.

I thought it made great viewing as I listened to the announcers talk about what type of shot it would take to achieve their goal on certain holes, lies & pin placements due to the elements. Instead of the typical, he has the ball below his feet, 180 yards he is hitting an 8 iron. Or he is 226yds out he is probably hitting a 4 iron trying to get there in 2.

Here is Kansas I play in typically 15mph wind daily & generally with 20-25mph gusts so I recognized the conditions they played in Saturday as a typical round here. This past weekend we had winds sustained of 20mph with gusts up to 45mph & people on the courses.

I had no problem with the pros playing in those conditions. It was the same for everyone. It didn’t seem to bother Cam Smith and his Vokey SM9 wedges. He certainly put on a short game demonstration.

Not to take anything away from Casey, who had such unfortunate luck on the 16th after hitting what seemed to be a perfect drive, or Lahiri who played tough all day, but Cam Smith deserved the win. He was amazing in the final round. 13 1-putts. His wedge game was/is remarkable. Parring the final hole after punching out of the trees and into the water, under that much pressure (with a winning take-home of $3.6 million on the line), showed just how good this kid really is. So glad Titleist has him on their roster.
