Do you think playing frequently on slow greens affects your ability to putt on regular greens and improve? My home course which I enjoy the over seeded fairways and thick rough year round always has slow/hairy greens.

I don't have problem putting on fast greens but I have noticed that putting on slow greens cause me to blast putts to the hole or take different lines. Worst part is sometime the ball either runs passed the hole or when it's slowing down it runs off line. After the round when reviewing my scorecard I can think of multiple putt that steered off line or thought they were in and weren't.

Any tips or suggestions on how I can continue to improve my putting on slow greens?

Not necessarily is my simple answer to your question. The key for me is to have a good practice putting routine before all my rounds. The trick here is how well does the practice green represent the speed of the greens on the course? I would say not all courses do a good job making the practice green and course greens close to equal.

When I'm on the practice green, I like to dial in my distances 5ft, 10ft and 15ft and I make sure I'm putting on the flattest line possible (i.e. no breaks). If you have alignment sticks, you can position those sticks at 10ft and 15ft and see if you can get your putts past the sticks; this was a suggestion from a good Titleist friend, Brad Faxon during the recent TTI.

Just take the same stance but take the putter back a bit farther and ensure you follow thru. Might practice that a bit before you go out. If they are slow and hairy they are not going to be consistent. A lot of the seniors I play with really like the slow greens. Not a fan of them. I play in our interclub league and we play a variety of greens on a different course each month and adjustment is something we have to deal with. When this happens, my main concern is just getting it to the hole, not in it. At 76, am a bit old school when it comes to putting. I just try to take what the course is offering that particular day. =)

Sorry to hear you have to play slow greens so often. The longer grass doesn't play nearly as true as fast greens. the grass will grab the ball more and be more unpredictable. That is one reason the pros make so many putts. Fast true greens help, if you hit it where you want to more putts will drop. The only suggestion I have is to try and get your speed down if the practice green is like the greens on the course. This will at least help eliminate 3 putts and give you a chance to hole some if you keep it near the hole.

I agree. I think the frustrating part is not getting the feed back during a round due to a variable you have no control over.
