My home course is contemplating going to Art.turf for the greens to save a boatload of money. Any feed back as to how they hold up and how they play?

That sound horrible. My only experience with artificial turf putting surfaces was at a putting course (not a mini golf course). The putting isn't too bad if it's built and maintained well; the concern I would have is your approach shots to the green and I have no idea what the ball interaction would be hitting the artificial turf.

Oh my gosh. Please say no. Understand it can save money on watering, mowing, manpower, over seeding, and in the North keeping courses open the year round. Would a course interest me that has artificial greens, turf or tee boxes. Not really. Why not add a windmill or two add a little extra excitement. I stopped playing putt putt back in the 70's. Imagine hitting a ball into a turf green and trying to get the ball to hold. Ain't gonna happen! Turf putting greens are for one's backyard to practice putting. Just sayin'. Good luck trying to read a turf green. Think, with all due respect, I would look for another club.

Bad move. Golf was meant to be played on real grass. If your course is doing it to save money, a couple years down the road they most likely will save money by not maintaining the artificial turf. Artificial turf leads to artificial golf. If they insist on going that route, maybe it should be limited to the tee boxes.

That begs the question, how would the USGA rate the course? From my perspective, I would believe artificial turf greens are like "greens under repair." My guess is a course rater would not look at that favorably if it was the permanent condition of the course.

Yea, my concern would also be on the approach shots. I have a putting green in my back yard and hitting wedge shots onto it produce no bounce. It takes a little to get used to it, but I wonder what it would do hitting full shots onto it. It's also hard to get the ball to spin back on the artificial green. Good luck.

The monetary savings will be negated by all the members who resign once the artificial turf is installed. Our club is converting from bent grass greens to TifEagle Bermuda greens next year. The thought of artificial turf on our greens was never an option. With respect, you need to rally the troops and overthrow your current Green Committee.

That does not sound like it would be pleasant to putt on.

Outside of mini-golf, I've only seen it once at a driving range and I hated it. It picked up pretty much any little bit of dirt and sediment. Any of the grit, sand, anything on your shoes sits in the fibers' surface. If not cleaned frequently (multiple times per day), the ball would roll unpredictably on anything outside of two feet.

I'm with the others, just say no.

Yes it is, I know Disney did it on 1 of their courses as a trial and haven't heard anything bad about it.

Dave, which of the Disney courses has the artificial turf greens. Everything I have found about their courses say they have Bermuda greens. Of course the info on the internet could be old. Here is a good article regarding this subject from 2020 in Golf Digest. Of course this takes it to another level.

Sounds pretty awful. Is it a nice course with decent amenities? Sounds like a pretty desperate move...
  14. I would think no way. I get having artificial grass at the driving range as an option with the real grass if the weather or whatever prevents hitting on real. But the actual greens? Not a chance.

Besides the environmental savings, would be nice to allow play in winter seasons (no frost delays)
