I am having a hard time with my driver even with lessons. I am considering moving over to a U-505 Utility Iron to drive. I am an older guy, 68 and hit my T-300 irons very well especially my long irons. Can you comment on whether the U-505 is for me and what shaft recommendations would you make? I play Project X LZ shafts in my irons. Thanks in advance.

Probably not a great idea to go with our advice. You are the one that will have to live with the benefits and consequences of that decision. Ideally, you find a teacher and work on your driver to the point of finding success because it will help you so much on Par 4's and Par 5's to have that distance advantage. Even going with a 3 Wood will likely give you better overall results but a select few do go with a Driving Iron however they are usually long hitters to begin with. If you hit your T300 long irons well because you strike down on them and you struggle with the driver because of the different "hit up" swing, the utility iron may give you the same problems if teed up. Whatever you (not us) decide, I wish you well with it and hope you can find enjoyment in every round of golf.

Young at 68, am approaching 77 and love my driver. Always see a fitter when I get a new driver. Said you are taking lessons, has your instructor said anything about your equipment being the right set up. Correct head, shaft and loft. I play T300s and love them with AMT Red S300 105-95 shafts as recommended by my fitter. I have a couple of fitters that I completely trust and have had no issue when it comes to hitting my clubs. Neither have suggested a driving iron for me and thru them I have a Driver, three wood and two hybrids in my bag, irons start at a 5 iron.
