Well been a slow start to the season for me. VGA kicked off here in March and man I put up some horrible scores. Ended up skipping a tournament in May just to focus on my game and thankfully it came around. Also switched out balls. Was playing a Bridgestone Tour B RXS but ditched it for a Pro V1 and absolutely love it! Still hovering around 100 ( 30HC ) but my scores continue to go down. Hope to get a little more consistent with my irons then we can chase 90. Pictured is my score card from this morning.

Looks like you’re driving the ball pretty well. Focus on that short game and you’re going to see your scores drop drastically!

Good job on 17!! :) Glad you're enjoying the game and the thrill of improving. That feeling will be with you forever.

Last week I played in my senior tournament on a course that I am very familiar with, and regularly score in the mid to upper 80's. Shot the worst round I can remember in a long time - 104 - 33 over!!! Needless to say I didn't win anything. Reviewing my score card left me disappointed but laughing, 4 pars and 4 quad bogies. Finished up with a par, so in my view I fixed whatever was off all morning and ready for the next round
    It happens!

After coming back from about a six month layoff and physical therapy, thought the road would be an easy one. Even took some lessons and am still doing that. Am working out at the senior center with weight machines trying to continue with the core development to strengthen my lower back. Am I hitting the ball any better? In spurts. Off the tee, probably longer than ever. My coach is work with me on my back swing speed and it is helping. My putting ok my fairways and hybrids ok, but the short irons are killing me. Am shooting in the 90s and my handicap has ballooned to 21. Cannot remember the last time it was that high. Guess it has to go up before it can come down. Can go out and shoot a 50 on the front and a 42 on the back. Best round so far since coming back has been an 87. The triple boogie blues are getting me and I am working hard with my pro. Guess time is on our side. About the time I am starting to see some improvement, another medical issue comes up. Am having surgery on the 28th. Breathing has become an issue this time. They are going to rebuild/reconstruct my nasal passages. Living along the coast the heat index this time of the year thru September is brutal and breathing is not easy. So will be set back another two to three weeks. Can start all over again with my training regiment. Hopefully I will have a swing by the time I get to Scottsdale. You kinda have to laugh and accept what is in the bag each day. Some shots are like you know exactly what you are doing when you are putting for birdies/eagles and then those shots that shoot your score thru the roof, you wander why your evil twin showed for those holes. Good thing I love this game and play with some great people, including my teaching pro. He assures me will get there if I get my old habits out of my head. ha..ha..ha... He is right you know.... Hakuna matata.

Chuck I feel your pain. I'm coming off a seven year golfing break and my consistency is non existent. Had 3 birdies last week and still shot high 80's. It was birdie, par or triple. It's amazing how I can hit 10 shots in a row exactly how I want, then hit 5 or 6 of the ugliest balls you will ever see in a row. If my scorecards were a line graph it would looks like the Alps. May have to invest in some lessons for the first time to get rid of this softball/baseball swing.
  7. Dial in those irons, hitting that many fairways you will start to score significantly better. Best of luck!

Unusual course to have 6 Par 3 holes but that should leave 12 fairways, not 10 so something a little strange about your statistics. Do your triples and double happen as the result of penalty strokes or just missed shots? When you find a way to turn those into just bogey, you will be surprised how your scores will drop and how much more fun it will be out there. Good luck with the journey.

    Lethbridge,

Keep enjoying the game it is a demanding mistress. As Alex advises keep working on the north game and putting and watch those scores plummet
  10. Living in Texas I can play virtually all year so I don't really have to approach a new season as it were
Bit of practice on the pitching and putting green and my game is good to go
Very rarely miss a fairway from the tee and if I do it is literally by a few feet
My short game is pretty hot so that's how I keep a good handicap
If play between 3 and 5 rounds in the week and shoot par or better more often than not
Keep up playing and in time u your game will all fall into place
    Enjoy
