I have to relate a story about my round this past weekend. It was one of those where you start thinking maybe I should just go home after 9 holes. Well, teed it up on the long par 3 12th hole at a club near me after not listening to myself. Tee shot comes off a mound to the right and rolls to about 30 feet away. Ok, actually hit a green. Let's 2 putt and get out of here. Not so fast. The putt is uphill then downhill with about 4 feet of break. Just got to get the putt to the top of the ridge then let it release to the hole. Yep, ball stops at the top of the ridge. SMH. Tap the next putt and it rolls about 6 feet past the hole. Great. Follow that with a lip out and Merry Christmas. You just snatched a double out of the jaws of a par. Like I said, sometimes you just gotta laugh. Rest of the round wasn't much better but hey I was outside doing what makes me happy (sometimes). Hitting the range this week then back at it again. Let's hear some of those good stories I know are out there that bring a (painful) smile to your face.

Wasn't laughing at the time, but this was a few months ago, playing by myself. A group jumped in front of me (I had the first tee time of the day), which unfortunately happens a lot at our club, no one really respects the tee sheet.

I had a terrible first hole, but caught up to the guys on 2 tee and they were going to let me through. Then my cart dies. I call it in, I say to the guys "go ahead, I'll catch up in a hole or two." I practically whiff my next one, blade the next, take double or triple, I can't remember and I'm of coursing steaming mad at this point. Shank it off the 3rd tee, take triple again.

Fourth hole, huge slice into the trees, have to drop. Chunk a 3rd, hit it short of the green for my 4th, on a par 4th. Drive up to my ball, pick it up and go home. Some days, better to just go home, so I hear your frustration. I think I shot like an 82 (which is pretty good for me) the next day.

    Happens more than I'll admit.
And I'll be back this weekend doing the same thing.
    Love it!!!
  4. Shooting 88 with a 10 and a 7 on the card, nuff said don't ask.
  5. Unfortunately I don't play holes like that playing sub par golf

Guys I play with do and they hit cart paths and bounce back into play ...

Lots of trees on my course which they hit frequently and bounce back onto the middle of the fairway

One guy came to a par 3 and the ball was 40 yds left of the green with a slice and he aced it

Luck which when it runs out they have lots of double or treble bogies

Thrill of victory, agony of defeat. Last weekend I'm at the club, had 2 rather embarrassing moments, but I accept that they happen. On the fringe in 2 at a couple Par-5's, proceeded to blade both "simple little chips" rather aggressively, walked away with par/bogey. Not a major gaffe, but for me, a moment of WTH. I accept 1, it happens, then it gets on your head. I was kinda laughing, my 2 buddies were in total disbelief. (we're around scratch handicaps). Golf is hard!

Well, many of us may have had a tear in the eye as well. Called empathy, been there, done that.

Played an away course this weekend with a wonky uphill par 5. 586 yards. Over swung with driver, slides off the fairway behind some trees and only 160 from tee. Advance a shot through the trees by splitting the uprights, followed by 2 fairway shots, Laying 4, at 20 yards from the pin. Chance for an up and down bogey. Blade the chip to the rough on the other side of the green ending in a snowman. After 4 pars and 2 bogeys (one was an 229 yd par 3) over the last 6 holes, the magic ended. The back was 300 yards longer than the front. Also had an uphill 446 par 4. Another triple.

I was on the 5th hole a par 4. I hit a great drive down the middle, next shot pulled it into the long stuff. I barely got it out of there. Then I got the chipping yips. 4 chips and one I skulled across the green. Wanted to give up right there.
  9. LOL! I am not sure if any of my stories can to that one!

I've given up trying to figure it all out at 61 years old - been playing since I was 10. With years comes wisdom... here's what I know:

I am pretty consistent in that I shoot the same 5-6 scores on my home course most of the timr. I play about 100 rounds a year now that I'm retired. BUT of those 100, I will have about 10-12 fantastic days when I play great and 10-12 days when (as many of you pointed out) I should have never even come to the course.

My conclusion is I have absolutely no idea or control over when the good and bad will happen each year!!!

So I just enjoy each day at the course and let happen what happens.

Yeah but someday you're gonna get an incredible break off a cart path or something! It all evens out!

Golf is a nice relaxing way to get really frustrated and super disappointed in yourself.

was playing at my home course and was having a day when I was slicing my tee shots and playing out of the trees is not fun..so hole 6 par 4 water runs along the right side..I tell my partner no way not going into the water.so I moved as far left as I could in the tee box figuring I hit down the left side and slice it in the fairway..wrong the ball went straight hit a tree bounced through the fairway past the tree line and into the water..Oh Well..on to the next hole.
  14. A few years back, I had the nine of my life, two under. The back nine is across a road. Little did I know crossing that road was like entering a different galaxy. Nine over on the back. Golf can drive you crazy!

Last year at a favorite course. #12 548yd par 5 with a creek 140yds in front of the green running through the fairway. So, I lay up to leave about 145 to the green. Hit a thick shot into the right rough. From there it took me 9 strokes to finally get it in the hole, I literally shanked chips almost around the whole green until I putted from a trap finished the hole with a 12 & just thought should I try this next hole or not?????
