Hit them straight and all this is avoided. LOL

Thick rough adds to the challenge of any course, I feel this is important for tournaments where very skilled players would like the additional difficulty.

However, for everyday golfers I prefer a lower rough....it also helps with pace of play many times IMHO.

For pace of play, I totally agree that lower rough would be helpful. Unlike the pros in tournaments, we don't have on course markers who will track balls that go astray. For me, losing a ball that should be "find-able" is one of the most frustrating things with playing golf.

Rough that high would be hard for a Pro, let alone us Hackers. You'd be lucky to find it, let alone hit it. Most courses keep rough reasonable, otherwise, pace of play suffers. Once that word gets around in the golfing community, not as many people will want to play there. = Loss of Income ;)

Have to agree with my right honorable friend from OH. Some rough should be there to add to a challenge and for tournaments it should be an added challenge. For everyday play, it only slows down play. Was talking to my financial advisor today about this very subject. They played the USGA Junior Championships at his club this past week and he said their roughs were penal. He said that they play it before the tournament and it took them over five hours due to looking for their balls and he is a scratch golfer. Imagine an average golf during everyday play. Some superintendents get a little goofy with their rough and pins every now and then and slow down play. Move em on head em out, let's have some fun. Personally I like the middle of the fairway. =)
