On Course Buddy Games?

    Curious to hear of games everyone plays with their more common friends on the course. We typically have 3 or 4. It almost always defaults to skins with handicaps, but curious if anyone knows of other fun games (especially in the fun off season), that dials up the practice as well. Thanks in advance for sharing!

    On Monday/Wednesday/Friday our Rascals (senior 50-92) group meet to play a modified stableford match. We each throw five dollars in the pot. Three dollars goes towards the points and two dollars towards closest to the pin on the four par threes. We get eight tee times at the course so no more than 32 can play on a given day. We go on line thru Golf Genius to sign up and there is a waiting list in case someone drops out or is not there by 715am. If you are on the waiting list you must show up by 705am. No handicaps because most do not have one and it is points based and adjusted after each round. All based on points. You have to play three 18 hole rounds to establish a score for points: 0- triple 1 - double 2- bogey 3 - par 5 - birdie 8 - eagle 15 - hole in one. Again modified stableford. Would love to start a skins match, but most of our seniors would not come up with the extra cash. Some tightwads, some tight budgets. Some have their own games within their groups. Mostly 50 cent games. Hakuna matata, fun is had by all.

    We play a modified Stableford, similar to Chuck and his buddies but points are a bit different. We usually have two foursomes play against each other. Best 3 out of 4 net scores count/hole. Points are 0 for Double or above, 1 for Bogey, 2 for Par, 4 for Birdie and 8 for Eagle. Total team score wins the match. We also play for a few bucks for closest to the pin on the par 3s. We play off low handicap plus one. Unfortunately that means everyone plays off me but I get one stroke on the hardest hole on the course. A good team score is in the high 80s-90s for 18, the record is 104.

    Probably the most memorable hole and match was a hole out for eagle with a stroke so 16 points. We were in the first group and saw it happen on the 2nd hole. We basically knew we were only playing for par 3 money at that point.

    We also play some 6/6/6 if we just have a foursome. 6 holes better ball, 6 hole scramble and 6 hole alternate shot. If you have a big discrepancy in how long some guys are, the alternate shot is fun, leading to one of my favorite quotes from a long hitter teamed with a short knock, "I ain't never been here before".

    We will also play some wolf, and, a loud howl is how you must announce your choice to go alone.

    We have a hamburger day once a quarter and the number of tee times is increased to ten (forty players). We do a four man blind draw total net (+/-) points. Top three teams get paid. Everyone gets a hamburger, chips and drink. Our rascals group is limited to 75 members, due to the limited number of tee times we get and there is a waiting list to get in. You also can be asked to leave the group if a certain number of points is not maintained. At Christmas time, the first Tuesday in December, we have a catered party at the local Yacht Club, an election of our board members at our annual meeting, and a good time is had by all. Some bring their wives to the party.

    play the stableford system front back total off low handicap in the group,we call these junk greenies on the par 3's have to be closest on the green and par or better
    greenies on the par 5's on in 2 or 3 on the green closest to pin par or better. birdies, sandies for par or better.
    we also play what we call poleskis putts for par or better outside the length of the flag sticks. all for a dollar.

    When my friends and I have a foursome we always play wolf, so much fun and can be very challenging. I managed to get the win last time we played!

    We generally play skins and separate the front and back 9 or go 6-6-6. Every now and again mix in wolf or bingo, bango, bongo. (Bingo point for first on the green, bango point for closest to the pin, bongo point for first in the hole).

    Large groups (8 or more) we’ve gone away from scrambles and more towards shambles. Keeps things moving while also allowing everyone to take some of their own shots.
