I think experience in the Majors counts for a LOT in these tournaments. Just think back to Tulsa and the duel between Pereira (sp?) and JT. The ability to calm oneself and hit the shots that are needed is critical to winning.

Agreed! Having experience in these high stress moments makes an enormous difference. If things are tight with the leaders coming down to the 72nd hole, at that point the player(s) have proven their skill level and their ability to stay focused will get them to the finish line.

Think there are just a few guys in the field that have the chops to win at Valhalla.
    Should be an epic major!!!

It’s all going to come down, who can stay in the moment and block out the noise. Mental toughness. It all comes down to this. Even without your A game, at times, still able to come up with something phenomenal and special…sets you apart.

With the course playing soft and the weather a “big if” it is setting up for someone who catches a break in the weather to win their first major. Hopefully he is playing a bag full of Titleist equipment!
  16. If Thomas or Morikawa won they would have 3 majors, all PGA's?
  17. It would be Morikawa’s 2nd… he won The Open.

Im just hoping for multiple good names to have a chance when we get to sunday

I have always felt the PGA more than any other major has an equal chance that champion will either be someone experienced and a first time major winner. Rich Beem, Shaun Micheel, Keegan Bradley, Jason Dufner, JT, etc. Not sure if this played into it, but it was the last on the schedule for a long time and maybe guys were just drained by then. I wouldn't mind that trend continuing and seeing Max take it this week. Xander seems like he might be the one to beat this week but only first round.

Course looks ready for a real battle on Sunday. Looking forward to another exciting finish. Another good week for those playing Titleist.

which clubs does the jailbird use??? scheme gettin too good!!!?
  22. My best would guess would be a player who already had a major under their belt. Valhalla is such a challenging course, which really all the pro’s will have an equally hard time navigating but like they say, whoever is mentally strongest will have an edge…oh let’s not forget a bit of luck going their way lol
BUT would love to see Victor Hovland get up and win it, such a natural talent!

I would like to see Corey Conners win his 1st major using his Pro V1

From the Derby to the 2nd PGA TOUR Major of the season, the action keeps on rolling in Kentucky. And as players make their final practice laps around Valhalla, we want to know who you think will emerge out of the pack coming down the home stretch to hoist the Wanamaker Trophy...

But there's a twist. We're not looking for names, we're looking for Major characteristics. So cast your vote below and add a comment if you want to expand on your vote (reminder, we're not looking for names ).

The majors require a different mentality. I think it would be tough for a rookie to come through the pack of the best PGA players that have been there before. Experience in majors will be the key. And of coarse playing a ProV1 doesn't hurt!!

    Lethbridge,

Someone from the pack is going to come through in the end.
