We are going to Hawaii over the summer and looking to get a few rounds of golf in, one round on Oahu and one round on Kauai. Any suggestions on what courses we should play? It would be really nice if one of the courses is on the ocean!
Thanks

I played Poipu Bay on the south side of Kauai while i was there in 2012. I thought it was outstanding. There is a stretch of holes on the back 9 right along the ocean. I have also heard the courses up in Princeville are great too.

Andrew,
Sounds like a great trip. As far as good courses, I would suggest Poipu Beach in Kauai is a great course. I didn't play on Oahu when I was there, so unfortunately I can be of much help there. If you make your way to Maui, Kapalua has 2 or 3 different course, the Bay Course is where they hold the tournement of champions in January.
Enjoy your trip!

I played the Fazio course over at Turtle Bay on the North Shore, and it was the most beautiful course I've ever played. They have Titleist rental clubs, that round was what actually got me started on them. I've always regretted not playing the Palmer course, that will be the course I will have to play if I ever make it back there.

Ko'olau Golf Course on Oahu is really nice, but last time I played it was about 5 years ago. It is not on the ocean, it is craved through the mountains. Nicknamed the "The Worlds Most Challenging Golf Course" and has/had been on a lot of top courses you can play lists.

Turtle Bay on the North Shore of Oahu is a great place! Also I recently played the Royal Hawaiian Golf Club near Kailua (about 15 mins from downtown Honolulu). It isn't on the ocean, but the views are still unbelievable!

I just got back and played Kapalua and Princeville. They were both amazing and well worth the price tag

I agree with Turtle Bay as a possibility; also, you might check out the Hawaii Prince Golf Club which is out in the Ewa Beach area of Oahu. It is owned by the hotel of the same name, so you can stay and play, or play independently. It was a pretty nice place as well.

Both Turtle Bay courses are awesome! Ko olau is certainly the most scenic and definitely the most difficult bordering on unfair. The turtle bay courses are on the north shore away from all of the touristy areas.

Aloha Andrew!
I live on Oahu and I know of some courses that are next to the ocean. Turtle Bay Palmer course is next to the ocean and a good course you would enjoy but you actually would see the ocean on only a few holes as most other courses on the island. (Some private and military) I suggest playing other "inside" courses and play an ocean course on Kauai. Koolau and Royal Hawaiian Golf Courses are difficult courses but so beautiful weaving through hills and valleys of trees next to the mountains on the windward side. Pearl CC about 30 minutes from Waikiki has a nice view overlooking Pearl Harbor. Many tournaments played there because of good conditions and layout. Ko Olina GC is where Michele W. just won on the LPGA but no views.
On Kauai, definitely play the Marriott Kauai Lagoons which is right next to the airport in Lihue but one of the nicest with beautiful ocean holes. (Jack Nicklas design) The Prince course at Princeville is also a good course high on a cliff overlooking the ocean.
These are some of my favorites and I hope it helps a little. Have a great time in paradise!

Aloha Andrew....... I f you know anyone in the Military stationed on Oahu, ask, beg them to get you a pass to play Klipper at the Marine Base in Kaneohe. The most beautiful ocean holes on Oahu.

Ko Olina on the Leeward coast of Oahu is a nice course. Easy to get to, and fun to play.

I was stationed on Oahu from 1977-1981 and 1984-1993.
If you have a military friend, try Hickam Air Force Base. The winds can be tricky. I used to play there most often. My dad liked it also.
I've heard about Leilehua (another military course).
Fort Shafter has a 9 hole course. What is interesting is you start out with a 165 yard par 3.
Navy Marine off Nimitz Highway....... too crowded plus a lot of hackers there.
If you want to play a quick 9, try Ted Makalena in Waipahu - unfortunately, the fairways are not so great.
Pali Golf Course is a good muni.
I've heard a lot about Turtle Bay Hilton. The greens fees were $150 in 1993 so probably over $200 by now.
