I just came from playing the Robert Trent Jones courses in Alabama (Capitol Hill and Silver Lakes to be exact). Ryan, I cannot emphasis enough how cost saving the trip was, and most importantly how beautiful and breath taking the courses are. Here is the link to the deals they have, and if you bargain with the coordinators, I'm sure that you can get a discount if you're traveling from a further distance (I just had to drive 3 hours).

Hey Ryan!

A few suggestions:
- North Carolina: Absolutely would suggest the Pine Needles, Tobacco Road, Mid-Pines, and if you can swing it, Pinehurst trip. I have a friend from college who tries to make the trek every year. Plenty of places to stay (especially if you take the AirBnb route).
- Atlanta: Fun courses in the area and so much to do when you're done playing. It's also a hub for Delta, so there's usually a lot of flights to choose from! For public courses I like Charlie Yates Golf Course, John A. White Course, Candler Park, and Chateau Elan (farther north).

Dallas is always a great option. Plenty of courses to choose from.

Austin would be my choice. So much to do after the round that can stay within a budget.

We have the Hard Rock casino here in Tulsa with a course onsite. Pretty easy trip.

Although Las Vegas isn't that warm in the Winter, Angel Park golf course is a very nice course with a mountain side and palm side and it is good golf for not much money!

I'll second Abby's recommendation of Atlanta, as I live here. Lots of great courses spread throughout the city. Especially if you get outside the perimeter for the budget conscious.

The other budget friendly option is the Robert Trent Jones golf trail in Alabama. Rooms and golf are pretty affordable. To save a few bucks, best to fly into Atlanta and drive, you can hit most of the courses in under 3 hours from the airport.

I definitely agree on the Pinehurt area and all the courses Abby mentioned.

Also I just played two great courses in Florida about an hour north of Tampa, World Woods Pine Barrens course, and Southern Hills Country Club (it's semi private and takes outside play) I had heard about World Woods but the Southern Hills complete surprised me, it's a Pete Dye design. Both of them had a much more Pinehurst feel than a Florida feel. They are less than 20 minutes from each other.

Don't know where you are coming from but a trip to Northern Michigan in the summer would be awesome!
Some of the most amazing courses that are a pretty good value plus lodging can be pretty cheap.
Check out Arcadia Bluffs, Bay Harbor, Forest Dunes, True North, any of the Shanty Creek or Boyne courses.

Young dudes, good times and golf. Myrtle beach, number one golf destination. A lot going on there. Go online and check it out. Do not think you would be disappointed. www.visitmyrtlebeach.com is the Chamber of Commerce site and a good place to start. Should direct you anything everything you need. Come on down to South Carolina, because it is a great day in South Carolina. We only have about 3 weeks of winter.

Also there is Hilton Head which has lots of resorts and each has a golf course. Great hang outs on the Island. Recommend Reilly's at the entrance to Sea Pines. Also recommend contacting the Chamber of Commerce. A very close knit community and they will give you great information. Expensive. Ask them when the off season is. Our best rates along the coast in Carolina are normally in June, July, and August. Very Hot and Humid. Cheers, Chuck.............

Matt you can find fantastic golf for cheap in the Pebble Beach/Monterey area in the fall/winter . Laguna Seca is a Robert Trent Jones course in Monterey you can find green fees as low $50. Carmel Valley Ranch in Carmel it's a Pete Dye course in fact the only on in Northern California I have seen deals for two for $159 . Poppy Hills in Pebble Beach for $75 .Stay at the Hampton Inn Monterey have a breakfast eggs oatmeal and waffles !

BBBBBBBandon DDDDDunes.. Its golf paradise and in top season its $220 for first round, $110 for replay and if suns out/time remaining the remainder is free!

I would say Pinehurst, NC and Myrtle Beach, SC.

.....Define winter. San Diego is playable in January and staying inland a few miles can be reasonable for rooms and the courses the locals play aren't expensive. Florida and Phoenix are generally expensive at that time. RTJ and Myrtle Beach are playable by late February, Pinehurst area by March although they advertise year round golf.

I have to agree with Abby and can't say enough good things about Tobacco Road. It is a must.. An amazing course... I could easily play 36 there and not get bored...

Although nothing in the way of nightlife, my buddies and I enjoy Hot Springs Village in Arkansas. Great courses (about 8 of them) for $60 a round. We rent out a house and it's fairly inexpensive. For us its all about maximizing the golf experience on a budget...

I, like others, probably define winter in different ways than you. Florida is probably the best state for winter golf weather-wise as North Carolina and South Carolina can both iffy at times due to colder temps and even (gasp!) snow. Our group has played in Myrtle Beach in late Feb and we've had days in the 80's (perfect) and rainy days in the 30's (horrible).
Factoring in the budget part of your question, deals can be had in various places but with the abundance of courses and accommodations Myrtle Beach and the surrounding area has l think it's difficult to pass on their area.

I have enjoyed some great trips . There is great golf out there and you don't have to spend a lot of $$$. The Monterey peninsula is one of my favorite places and the Bayonet/Blackhorse courses are outstanding and a great value. Check their website. Hilton Head is great, and has a great range of golf for the $$ you want to spend.....from Sea Pines to Palmetto Dunes. I enjoyed the World Golf Hall of Fame trip we did, and playing the King and the Bear / Slammer and Squire courses. But the RTJ course in Mobile AL, kind of blew me away. Magnolia Grove was amazing. I also played one of the courses in Point Clear, which was also great. The RTJ courses are now on my bucket list. Not sure where you're at and where you want to travel, but another hidden gem in the NW is Salish Cliffs, south of Seattle. Have fun exploring.
